Candy is sick. I’m not sure what is the problem. Since yesterday, she just hides under ramp. Every time I checked her, her crop is empty. I hand feed her food and mealworms before and after work. She wouldn’t eat food anymore today, only some mealworms. She has her eyes closed all the time and wouldn’t move if I put her down. I give her 0.1ml corid (she is about 2 lb). Any idea what else can I do? My son is crying a lot, because he is worried about she will die.:(

Is she egg bound? Has she been wormed? Check her poop for worms, blood and also tell/show us the consistency and color. Check for mites too. After all that, it’s just about keeping her fed and hydrated. Oh, and WARM! It’s too cold for a sick chicken right now. She will need to save her energy.

She hasn’t started laying yet. Don’t feel any egg either. Her poop looks normal: yellow with some white. No diarrhea. I didn’t find any sign of mites. All other chickens are happy and healthy. She is the lowest one in pecking order and has been bullied a lot. I was considering take her in, but I’m afraid that she will be pecked more when she goes back.

I can’t find the thread I was looking for. :(
She needs to be eating to have the energy to keep warm. If you are worried about bringing her in, bring in two.
Have you ever tube fed a bird? It’s scary until you open her mouth, see what’s where, and realize it’s pretty easy to get a tube in the right place.

:hmmeverybody pecks her. I guess I have to bring her in herself and then merge her back later. She ate some mealworms today, so I don’t need to worry about tube feed yet. We will see how she’s doing tomorrow. I will make some scrambled eggs.
