Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Well I am a re-transplant currently in Central PA, (back where I started from). I will be looking to start a flock in HOPEFULLY a few months once I get things in order. I need to find out what the local chicken people (nuts) have to select from to see if I can match em up with my chicken wish list. I hope to be hatching all my next flock from eggs if I can find them locally. First I have to find a place that allows livestock and work from there. It is going to be a long uphill road me thinks.

I have an order going in today for 50 freedom rangers, if anyone local wants to add to that let me know,,,,,they have a minimum of 25 birds so if you only want say 10, this would be your opportunity,,,,
i would ask that you pick them up in the first couple days though..

Welcome! Plenty of choice locally, I'm sure someone has what you'll want, and even more of what you don't know you want! Eggs, chicks, adults, seems we have almost everything.

as some of you know ,,,i sold all of my quail off last fall,,was waiting to have proper cages.....i have been given the space of the old corn crib,,,,,think this would work for a line of quail pens...

I am thinking movable cages would be best,,,,could always hose the whole thing down if needed,,,can remove boards if needed, or put more up in winter.....

hubby is no longer going to use this for corn storage, these are his meat birds, but he did ask if this space will work for my quail cages,,,,what you all think....i am sure most of you know what a corn crib looks like,,,,i would only use a small section...

i sure do miss those quail dinners..

There is a link to the map in my signature...it'll tell you where most of us crazy chicken folk are. Then you just have to ask for what you want...most everyone has something! LOL

Quote: My duckies go into a pen with rabbit wire in the bottom on the entire thing as soon as they are walking well (a couple days old) as long as I have room in that pen for them. They do fine & the mess is far less so your plan would work quite well. I even mix chicks in with them with no problems once they are on wire.

HOLY DUCKS! 10 more zipping, morning will come fast enough!

Sharron these are MY MITEY Bumblebees!......

I'm interested in any chocolate, lavender, blue or tri-color you may have on the Anconas. I have a ton of black, a couple blue & 1 or 2 that may be lav at the moment.

I could not fit the geese in the car, so I only took my 4 KC girls, 6 ducklings, my three Delaware hens and my mottled Bantam Cochin pair. We did not buy anything! I wanted doves, goslings and he wants a Mandarin drake. Nothing made it back in the car! Whoot! Happy with myself on that. I was guilt tripped into the 50/50 drawing - I bought a single ticket. Wouldn't you know it, I (or as Dewey would like to say, we) won. Almost all of it went right back into chicken stuff (meds, meal worms, feed and oyster shell).

It was great talking to BirdsByGavin and Cskotec today! Great chicken day - glad I went because it got my mind off everything for awhile.

(No more chick casualties today, either!)
I may still be interested in the geese if you still want to do some swapping. My old gander who wasn't doing his job will be going to the swap meet on the 16th so that will make room for a coule more geese here.

Looks like a good place for quail to me. I have eggs if you need some to hatch out.

silkie, you will have to send me some pics of your quail,,,,i don't do anything smaller than cot's,,,,,would probably mix eggs from a few different sources to make sure i get variety to start off with....
since i will have the space i may do a cage or 2 of bobwhite also...

by the way silkie,,,ducks have been candled, only pulled 4 pekin that were clear and 1 runner that had a blood ring......fertility must be pretty good, and all air cells look good.

I have EE and ... A mess.

If I get the roosters separate, I can have first generation; OE, EE, Black and Red Sex Links, BCM, and RIR. If I get lucky, I will be able to find out if my Ameraucana pair are really Ameraucanas. I have not taken the time to check that out.
Until then I just have a bunch of eggs, and IDK who the baby daddy is.

A couple of my cots are a bit naked at the moment from an excess of boys but I'll get you pix. They are a mix of jumbo & regular. I have tennessee reds too but they aren't laying yet. Glad the duckies are doing well. I have a batch that have started pipping with 1 hatched last night. That bator is headed to my son't classroom tomorrow afternoon so they can watch the rest of my staggered hatch of pekins, runners, calls, silkies, oegb, bantam orps & cochin mix hatch this week. They are all excited about it. I have to take chicks & ducklings in tomorrow afternoon too so they can see how they grow...LOL

Sally - I was following the saga of the egg that you dropped with the baby inside. And I seem to have lost where to look for progress. How did that turn out? Sorry, if it had a sad ending, not my intention to rehash bad memories.
