SorryLost one of my 2 Silver Laced Wyandottes last night. Went to put everyone in for the night and found her on the ramp in the water trough. She was alive but very weak. Tried to dry her off and warm her up, but she didn't make it through the night.
I really hope things start to settle down for you.Oh, this just bites.
I moved all the Ameraucana pullets to the big coop with all the other mostly feathered chicks and so far it's just normal pecking order squabbles. All the Ameraucana and OE cockerels are being culled tomorrow. No point in saving birds I know won't sell... I have to beg people to take them for free. They are taking up valuable room and eating my feed. So far, no more vent pecking. I did lose one yesterday due to vent picking, but it was one in the infirmary and wasn't looking all that great a couple days ago.
I moved the 2wk old chicks that were crammed in the tote brooder to the 2x6 foot brooder all the sick chicks were in. I bleach the crap out of that brooder... 5hrs after the chicks were in there I had my first sneeze. So, on with round freakin 2. It has to be that cocci that gets in the respiratory system! I bought the organic, unfiltered ACV and made my own kind of VetRX with rosemary oil, eucalyptus oil and oregano oil. It's making my hands super soft, too... Smells yummy...
Anyways... Sick of the illnesses. I just had an exciting 2 hatches. The round in the sick brooder had 2 100% black English Orps and 2 Jubilee split black bantam Orps. This round (in the blue tote brooder and not sick) has my first 2 large fowl chocolates! WHOOT! I hope the Orps in the sick group say healthy!
Hi, new to backyard chickens.
I've had some layers for a few years and decided to branch out and put the farm to use.
I am now enjoying being overrun with chickens. I have:
12 layers about 2 months from laying
8 cornish X (temporary)
2 ducklings that think I'm mom
4 Dorkings two hens and two roo's![]()
and 29 assorted chicks of cochin, brahma, dominique, barred rock, and silver laced wyandottes. and one silver laced polish hen.
Going for dual purpose free range/organic and something friendly for my almost 3 year old nephew to be involved with since he loves going down and helping me water, feed, and pitchfork hay.

Now, there you go AGAIN....OKAY< when YOU come over & help ME BUILD a BIGGER coop, then I'll submit to your persistent attempts to make my flock one of insane proportions! That is why you need more chickens! Fifteen or twenty more should do it... For now.
I wish my bathroom had a door that even closed properly...then I could LOCK IT!!! I'm headed for a bubble bath now after spending most of the day trimming trees & bushes in this jungle of a yard. JJ has an attitude problem because I told everyone to eat what they wanted for supper because I hurt too bad to stand to cook right now. He's an adult. If he wants food cooked he knows how to do it!!! He really needs an attitude adjustment right about now. Where the heck is my "equalizer"!!! A couple good cracks to the skull ought to do it.
Well, I certainly hope you get it. We are keeping the grandsons overnight and I have forgotten what it is like to really need just a minute alone to be in the bathroom. I was reminded today. It is amazing, the things they say. 5 year old: 'Grandmom, my bedtime is 12. But don't call my Mom n ask, cause she is busy on a date with Daddy. 3yo swears there are monkeys in our woods, even sees their footprints. I hope you all have an Awesome Mothers Day.
