Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hey everyone! I'm new to BYC, and I am located in Huntingdon Valley, right outside of Philly.

Can anyone recommend a good place to get pullets or grown chickens? Preferably Barred Rock or Orphingtons but any breed that lays well/ can stand the cold would do.

The only things I can find are chicks online or a place that sells pullets with beaks cut that is veryyy expensive to ship. I am willing to drive up to 2 hours to get the birds.

Any and all help would be great!

I have a few Orpingtins, mixed lemon rooster over blue/black. 10 or 12 weeks old if interested. Lancaster county.

that is awesome...another dirt lover here!!

I thought about breeding when we had Fred-our cockatiel, but it just didn't happen. So, how early do they have you up?! haha Fred used to start at about 6:30am...he loved to say his name..very loudly.. until someone would uncover him & say good morning

well, yeah, we always plant more than we can eat or i can put up, use to give it away but not only did they want you to pick it for them , they wanted you to bring it to them, and like a fool, i did til one day i said enough, if you're to lazy to come get it, then you don't need it, now the son and his family are here with us and she cans too so no more left overs
not going to the swap or meet, to far away for us, and i hate to ask the other half, he probably would for me, but getting older and we have a hard time sitting for long periods now

Well so far it's been a lovely day, not. Went to take care of thechicks this morning, and I find Chip (one of the EEs) dead UNDER the waterer. I have no idea how the poor thing ended up under there. Then Gavin jams his finger, gets his foot stepped on and hit in the solar plexus (? sp) by a ball at his baseball game. So the entire last inning was spent trying to get him to calm his breathing down. Which ended with a migraine and my mother and I getting into a tiff, nurse/grandma vs momma. And of course it's raining right now so no fishing, which has Gavin upset. I think I may want a beer or two tonight if this day doesn't get better....

I seriously need to learn to can. I got a book, but the author (whom is actually a member of BYC) didn't cover all the things I would be canning.

Howdy from Chester Co. The only places I know to get chicks are Tractor Supply (Parkersburg) and Pickering Valley Feed (Exton). There is also a place called the Green Dragon where there are bird auctions...If you send you zip to MissyDCPC she can add you to the community link and you can see who is close by...good luck in your search....

Oh, the pickering valley feed is great! Nearby as well. I am looking to get them around June, do you know how to place an order there?
And thank you for all the help/ offers!

RDIB:

I'd check their web site....they get shipments in weekly. I'd call them to see if they'll do a special order...Usually you just go there and pick up what you want...I've seen posters up for Ideal Hatchery so I think thats where they get them..
