We had to put one of the chicks down tonight so now we only have 3 chicks from the 18 eggs we started with. It was the one that hatched and there was some blood, yolk sac didn't totally absorb and the umbilical cord was still attached. It must have pulled the intestines because tonight they were hanging out. The hubby tried to push them back in but he couldn't do it. The chick wasn't doing well so we used the vinegar and baking soda to put it to sleep.

Has anyone gone to the Belle Vernon Tractor Supply swap on the second Sat. of the month? I was wondering if there are a lot of baby chicks and hatching eggs. I was thinking about going this weekend instead of ordering more eggs.

I'm looking for Polish, Frizzles, Marans and Easter Eggers.

I have a couple bantam EE chicks available & have eggs available for both bantam & LF EE.

Revaugh, we usually have our results within the week from New Bolton Center. Which lab did your blood get sent to? I'll make sure we never use that one.

Chad dropped them right off to the Harrisburg lab on Thursday last week. They had to let them sit the 2 days, so tested Monday, I guess.

so one of my chicks is acting weird. it will not lay down. he is so tired. wings are droopy and is always falling asleep standing. he keeps his but in the air all the time. did notice if i hold him he will lay down. any ideas?

Just introducing myself to all of you !!!

Im just starting my attempt at raising chicken for the first time and so far I really enjoy it. So far I have Buff Orpingtons, Coronation Sussex and am going to pick up a couple New Hampshires this weekend. They are all between 3-6 weeks old. Lots of fun to watch them (I originally got into this for the eggs).
I live in Southern Butler County and saw a couple people from around my area.

I can already see how this can be addicting.. Hopefully I will have enough knowledge to help contribute something here soon.
