Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Thank you, Wing. Thank you everyone for your compassion. You guys are the best. It's good to hear I'm not the only one who sometimes leaves the run open by accident, unfortunately for me, the wind closed it and all the birds were stuck outside of the run all night.

We lost our best Orpington, White Marans and Alpha Roo (BCM) among others. My very favorite girl, broody Momma extraordinare, 'Popcorn' survived, she seems to be missing an eye, but the rest of her looks good. She is in quarantine. My smart aleck teenage son wants to call her Pop'eye' now. I'm just glad she's alive .
I have an extra BCM roo, he may not be an alpha, but he's a fairly sweet boy of about 9 weeks old. He was going to head to freezer camp eventually, but if you want him you can have him. We had named him Copper, if you'd like I can post a pic of him or send you one in a pm, once he holds still long enough for me to get some.

Anyone Near Pittsburgh in the market for a French Black Copper Maran pullet? 12 weeks old for sale.
Send me a private message if you are.

What a beautiful bird! I would love a BCM, but we live five hours away!

Possible derecho hitting the Pittsburgh area tomorrow. Until today, I had never even heard the term derecho. Looks the birds will be locked in the coop tomorrow. I hope they can make it through this...whatever it is!
I need to start watching the weather channel or Nick Jr. needs to start giving news updates in between cartoons! I had no idea we are getting bad storms.

So Sorry for your loss. :(  Any idea what it was?
:hugs
I hope your day is going better today.

i don't know what it was, but hope to find out in the morning. Teenage son set 3 traps tonight. We moved the brooders closer to the house and I finished putting the hardware clothe on the new run.

I have twelve youngorpingtons, not all hens if toy want any to start a rebuild. They are from a beautiful lemon cuckoo rooster over BBS hens. Vary from yellow, to yellow/blue to yellow black to black.

Blarney not sure you want chicks but Devon elementary has about 30 RIRs that need a home plus I could part with a female welsummer to get your flock back together.

Our pony is named popcorn, great name!

i can NOT get over the generosity of everyone on this thread. Thank you all so much. We have scads of chicks growing out, so I think we're set and the flock should recover. I am focusing on the fact that my best girl 'Popcorn' survived.

Quote: I have 5 "keeper" roos & about another 15 that are headed to the swap this weekend. It's just my big free range boy we hear the best when he decides to literally stand on the other side of the door from where we are sitting to tell us he's waiting on breakfast.

2 of the banty boys are penned within 20 feet of the back door but are not loud at all. 3 banty boys that are headed to the swap are penned in the basement in quarantine because someone gave them to me when they came to buy hens last week & they won't make it out of quarantine before the swap meet. Even though they are almost under my bedroom I still can't hear them because they are young & don't have full voice yet. My other big roo is about half way back our property & there are several duck & turkey pens between him & the house so we don't hear him often unless we are out that direction. The rest of the young boys I haven't even heard crow at all. I'm sure they have but I haven't caught them yet. The oldest (the 5th keeper) is about 15 weeks or so now so should be crowing. I just haven't heard him. Most of the older ones are out in that far pen though, so not easy to hear unless you are out that direction.

Quote: I have 3 little cream legbar roos about 3 months old for sale. Greenfire Farms lines.
Quick question- I got two barred rock hens the other day.
One was laying, one wasn't. The one laying layed every day, and then stopped suddenly. I have the hens in with my pullets, and I was feeding them starter crumbles so I figured it would be OK to let the hens eat those too, as long as I gave them veggies and egg shells for calcium. Could that be a reason she stopped laying?
Any change will upset a laying cycle. It could take up to 2 weeks for her to get completely back to normal.

Quote: I have about 5 FBCM pullets that should start laying any time now out in my coop. Just waiting on little chocolate pullet eggs.

Is it really only 7:30?, feel like I lived a lifetime since I woke up. Many of our birds did not get cooped last night, LGD took cover from the storm in the garage and we were hit hard by a predator. I'm pretty shook. Trying to focus on being thankful for the chooks that are still here, but still feel like crud.

:hugs So, so sorry to hear about your losses. I can give you some SS eggs or if you can wait a few weeks I should have some chicks.

I just watched probably one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time, and am kicking myself for not having a camera. At the far end of the yard a doe and fawn were crossing. My "alpha" rooster, Jäger, runs nearly all the way down to them. The doe snorted but they stood still, then the fawn creeps up to him and sniffs him. Jäger crows at it, and it jumped so flipping high. I started laughing and both deer took off with Jäger chasing them to the edge of the yard. He crows at them again, then comes back to his favorite group of girls all puffed up, as if to say "Yep, I showed them who's boss." That could have been a AFV winner, I'm going to make an effort to only go out with the birds with a video camera from now on...

Yeah, Sprout needs to run the weather at the top of the screen too!

LOL I love when they are protective...with things that couldn't harm them.
