A question about quarantine procedures when adding chicks to the flock....I am getting a new coop tomorrow and will be using the old coop as a quarantine for new arrivals...so how far apart do the two need to be....if my flock is free ranging then they can always touch beaks through the quarantine pen wiht the new arrivals??? Thanks in advance!

i believe the bet case scenario is to not have them breathe the same air. Which sounds extreme, but not if you consider air borne illnesses.

New people joined. People bought new chickens. People hatched new chickens. People bought some turkeys. People wil have new goats. People want to go to Knoebels. Think that sums it up!

I grew up in Shamokin, just 9-10 minutes from Knoebel's. Who is lookin to go???
People have bought chicks since the time ive been on? No way. Haha!

No clue why but this made me laugh and think of everyone on this site! hehe
Alarm goes off at 6:30 here, but we shove kids out of bed to go collect eggs, feed & let birds out. We supervise all of this of course, but the kids still get to do most of it since it's summer & we are stuck doing it all during school.

Quote: I can help with that!!!

Quote: My roo always comes out closer to the back of the pack too, but we have a lot of young pullets & a half grown BBW turkey in the mix that absolutely trample anything that gets between them & the food bowl when that door opens. I think he's just smart enough to stay out of the way...LOL

My babies getting some outside time today!! They played an amazing game of keep away, just as i went to record it though, they put the, what I looked at closer to be a balled up candy wrapper, outside the pen area! lol was really cute!!

I just love these 2! their color just gets me!! I think they are both pullets too!

My brahama (Bahama Mama, is her name) and my 2 blue Marans, 1 is a Pullet the other a Roo, looking at how their combs are developing anyway, they are from, http://www.signaturefeathers.com/marans/marans.html

The ladies, all squawking and purring in the coop, finding their egg laying hiding spot! lol

you can also see the FBCM, those are the one I got from the swa.p, Found the business card, they are from Loudounberry farms http://loudounberryfarm.com/poultrypage/french-black-copper-marans

I hope everyone has fun at the picnic today!

I quarantine in cages in my basement away from all other birds. All other birds are outside except babies in the brooder upstairs. There is no access from upstairs to basement without going outside, so complete separation.

Is it always this quiet around here on Saturdays or is every person in the PA site at that picnic? Someone needs to have one in the Pittsburgh area!
I'm here! I'd be able to make it to 1 on this side of the state. I'm just over an hour from Pittsburgh & make it there & Washington area frequently.
