I like your Avatar. I grew up outside of Philly (Delco) I am now in Chester County. Building the coop first? Imagine that!

Yes I am in the dreaming and planning phase. I have read quite alot on this site. People sure have alot of experience and recommendations.............i dont know if I will ever start there is always another thing to consider.

Some of my big concerns are:
I dont really have good carpentry skills or tools...........

Like how do I cut wood at an angle?
I can drill holes and put in screws, nails, use screwdrivers and a hammer , staple gun etc.
I am good at painting etc......

How will I raise my dresser coop and still have it be sturdy etc............

and recently in a post re: building of coops someone mentioned the floor should have drainage...........hmm how much?
The dresser has a wood floor...........I could drill some holes but I want it to be strong........

is this for hosing out????

so many questions!

but I am having fun thinking about this....................its like a really big craft project!

I'm here! I'd be able to make it to 1 on this side of the state. I'm just over an hour from Pittsburgh & make it there & Washington area frequently.

I'm in if we have one in Pittsburgh!!!

We have used corrugated steel roofing that was laying around, roll roofing & black paper that was stuffed under the porch, & the old attic door we took off while remodeling became the door to the turkey pen. Nest boxes for the ducks are old tires that were laying everywhere. The chickens have old dresser drawers attached in a stack to the wall of their coop for nest boxes. There is only 1 duck/goose pen we bought wood for & that was 2 sheets of OSB & four 1x2's 8 ft long. That made a 4x4x4 box with a wire front with 2x4 door. Below are a few pix of a couple of the recycled coops.
