Yeah, I don't know how you could possibly be responsible for fertile eggs, considering your only love interest is a TOM turkey.

Hey, this is my son Tommy you guys are talking about! I told Tommy he is not allowed to see Chad anymore. He agrees, he can't control his behavior around him. So Tommy gets locked up when Chad comes to mow! No more human/turkey love!!! or whatever it is that they have with each other!

IDK why he gets excited when he sees me!?!?!?

Good lord I go away for 5 hours and have 7 pages of reading to do LOL
Geisinger at the main campus in Danville, although they do it at some of the GYN offices located in other towns. They do the placement and removal. I don't know if any of the Evangelical branches, or even if Evan's main campus, does them to be honest. Danville's about an hour from Millmont, straight E on 45 to 54, I once thought that was far to drive for a doctor, until Gavin fell while we were camping. I passed 3 hospitals to take him to one I trusted, then again I knew the reputations of the others due to working in an E.R...

ETA: Gavin was poking it last night, and was saying " Eww look at it move" while he was giggling about it...sometimes I really wonder about him.
Thanks hun, appreciate the info. Back in Australia most drs did it so I didn't really have to worry about tracking someone down. Medical stuff over here gives me a headache, was sooooooooo much easier back home!

I don't vaccinate. I also don't use medicated feed. Of course the medicated part is because my one breed is harmed by it, so I'm told.

I don't vaccinate or use medicated feed either. I have multiple species, and I don't want the chemicals. I also try not to give to many antibiotics. I will however treat for bugs! Sometimes the a red buttocks will get desitin (vent gleet).

I want everyone to be aware of something that happened to a friend of mine. She was giving her 12 week olds cantaloupe rinds. Within an hour 5 of the birds got acutely sick. It was botulism.

Make sure to wash or rinse your stuff before you give it to the birds! Just rinsing will remove 90% of the bad stuff!

Signs of botulism: stop eating/drinking, lethargy, acts drunk (LOL), laying down, looses muscle control (like a wet noodle).

Treatment: give an oral drench of 1/2 teaspoon epsom salts diluted in water. This will make them thursty. Fill the crop with as much water as you can. Once it goes down, keep filling it up. The bird will eventually be able to "come to" and then drink on its own. Hold all food, until the bird is up and moving around, and drinking on its own.

Have you ever wanted to do something and didn't? I never wanted to regret not doing something so I've tried to do a lot of things. Been in different positions work wise and have had my hands in a number of things. All in all, lots of experiences, a number of skills and stories enough to write a book. And so for the most part to help people. Do use some skills for my business.

An Aussie from OKC in PA? Yeah the egg critter with the thermometer is kinda creepy

When I add paper towels, I put them in a glass with water and check that they stay damp. If my humidity is way lower than I want it. I fill a sanitary napkin with water and chuck that in directly below the vent hole for easy addition of water. It ain't pretty, but it works.
I don't know why, but this made me laugh a lot!!!! I am imagining ton of lady products laying around in my bator!!!!!!

GOOD MORNING!!!

Welcome all the newbies! :)
I had 3 ball jars filled with water since i only had 4 eggs in it and it helped stabalize the temp dramatically! :)

So on the vaccinating thing.... Is this something i need to worry about with the chicks i hatched out? Is it necessary? How about if i want to take one to a show a few years from now? Wasn't there a list circulating of poultry vets and people who do testing and such? Any chance i can get a copy? sure would be nice to have on hand.

So my 2 dozen eggs should be here any day. Still no more info on the USPS website since tuesday as to there location. Last thing listed is okland california. The last shipment came in 2 days and this one is already on it's 3rd. Getting worried...

I apoligize for all the questions and I asked this in the incubating thread as well. However, since we have so many good examples here, i thought i should ask here as well.

My humidity in my last hatch was kept at 60% during and up to 75% at lock down (assuming my hydrometer is correct, I have another one on the way so i have 2 for the next hatch) How can I avoid the shrink wrapped chicks. Mine all seemed shrink wrapped. I have the incubator in a n un-used bedroom that has central air. The temp stays at 72deg. I had a HECK of a time getting the hummidity up to 75%. I am guessing that is due to the room being less humid. I had to keep the one vent plug in and the other half way coverd with all the wells filled, 2 sponges and 2 wet paper towels. Any suggestions? Should i move it to a room that isn't temperature controlled? I then worry about the temp swings.

Thanks! and i hope everyone has a good day!

Wow that seems like a high humidity. What kind of bator? I dry hatch. I don't put any water in until lock down. Even then I keep it between 35%-50%. Otherwise they drown.
