I was just browsing the left over paint cans in the basement.................seems like a lot of enamel paints.............

I don't know anything about paints........gonna research....but thought I would ask you all.......are there paints that are bad for
interior chicken coop walls?

poisionous or ............fumes or????

I will definitely make everything waterfproof or durable with a poly urethane external coat............is that okay for chickens????

The learning curve is always fun....well my little chooks have become adults...pecking order included....at this point the chook I netted yesterday will not come near me,,,,even with rasberry treats...and because I am dense, I am just realizing one of my girls has claimed alpha status...she will not let 4 of the 6 eat at the bowl when she's there,,,,when giving treats she warns the others away...and I tried to coax the flock to follow me and she told them to go lay down so she could get the treats...she even got pissy at one of my GLWs who was dusting...she came over, and kicked her out of her spot...quite bitchie imho....

well, I think I need a roo to manage the girls....I have a good lead on a young CCL (a freebie)...Sally, if this works out I would not be interested in one of your two.(sorry)....and I think I am going to add a second feeding bowl...comments welcome....!!!

I didn't paint the inside of my coop....I do think putting down a good floor that you can hose off is important....I have only used latex paints for years....enamel used to be oil based...good for the exterior and more durable, but, you may need to prep the exterior for oil based paint and tuupentine is a PIA....def not an expert....(and I do not think you can poly over paint).....
 
Is there a reason that folks seem to want to hatch chicks as opposed to having chicks shipped?

For me it's just an enjoyment of the broody hen process... and you can't beat watching a broody with her newborns, I could spend hours sitting in the coop just watching chick TV! LOL
Hatching also gives folks the ability to mix breeds easier. Many suppliers don't sell less then 6 or 12 chicks, and sometimes it isn't safe or practical to ship less than a dozen at a time (for warmth and to keep them from rolling around in the shipping boxes in particular) so being able to hatch allows more variety and flexibility in numbers and breeds.

and I think we get a sense of satisfaction out of being in some way responsible for the end results, even if we don't have a major role in the hatching (trust me, the broody gets all the credit at our place, but we are still pretty proud of those little ones! )
