Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hi all. I will read over posts later. My big black copper Maran too is missing. No trace if him. Girls are in the coop and he isn't. I searched the whole farm and couldn't even find s feather!!! We have hawks around but I have yet to see one go after the chickens. Any suggestions??? Hoping he comes back in the morning, but he never leaves his girls!!

thinking about holding onto this boy,,,but again he is from a swap egg and i have no clue,,,,I am really bad at identifying breeds,,,,,,hhheeellllpppp...thee breed may help me in deciding,,,,,hubby says no more white egg layers,,(i have a hard time selling whites)

he has a deep mahogany color with black tips....white earlobes you can see....has very little feathering on feet but there is some..he is quite broad also..have other pics if it will help

re: my carpentry "skills" and my sliding floors...............what I consider a sliding floor is a board cut to fit the space ----just slightly smaller so I can slide the board out.............see sliding floor!

so its pretty basic.......but I feel at least it gives another layer to the floor that could be removed and cleaned as opposed to dealing with a non moveable floor.........

I have been painting a lot today....................starting to skip the sanding of some boards..............hope this wont matter.............its a chicken coop not a piece of furniture...........

UGH...back pain and fatigue ......yet still enjoyment.............kinda weird thing!

taking a goat to a parade..................now that is kinda interesting...................Blarney how did the goat manage at the parade?   On a leash etc..........those would be interesting photos!

Yes STAKE, still across from Fire House, really was fun for the kids.

Lisa, was not my idea. I may have a picture, we kept him on a leash, but mostly we carried him. Made him a bottle for the ride. We stopped at the nursing home in Media and the residents were delighted with this cute little girl, holding a baby goat. She went up to each and every resident, let them pet the goat and answered their questions. Was a proud moment for me.

I would love to keep it simple------yet I have a relatively small yard for the suburbs and I am not sure if the neighbors will mind..............so I gotta try to keep it somewhat okay and its behind a bush ............to block one view............gotta figure out some evergreen view block for the other view..............

Everything-----or at least 90% is free, scrap, craigslist............etc.................I borrowed some tools from family and a friend.............I did buy some screws, and unfortunately bought 4 cinder blocks.

I got all this stuff from free sources
dresser ( basic coop),
lots of miscellaneous free wood of all types
some metal brackets of miscellaneous types ( have come in handy already)
hardware cloth ( imagine that! ) that stuff costs a lot
shingles! free and delivered!
cinder blocks ( after I bought 4)

Now I don't know how I will build my lean to roof.

I have shingles and a big piece of wood.

no tar paper...............I am thinking I will just seal the wood ( I found a stain and seal all in one ) and then just staple the shingles on...............what to you all think about that?

I hope my run will be strong enough------I am using scrap wood and when you put it all together at 90degree angles-----and its not that thick.....................might be kinda weak.
I have to figure out how to reinforce this..........with some type of triangle wood or metal bracket. ................I am not that good at cutting angles with wood yet...............but this reciprocating saw I am borrowing is really cool!

I am just hoping for a rain free night because I painted lots of wood and its out there drying.........

that's where I am at!

I will post pictures tomorrow

I am grubby, and have a sore back , and in urgent need of a shower!.....................and somehow................still having fun......

sounds like bringing the goat along worked out well though! It sure helps having some interesting diversions for nursing home folks.................bet they loved that!

I have a friend who has been in rehab since April ----and feels ( pardon the pun) "cooped up" and totally bored...............she is making nice physical progress yet sooooo bored.

I bet that kinda diversion makes a big difference!

hi, how r u?

i have a question, how are they going to enforce you selling eggs out of state without being npip? i've been ordering eggs from out of state and none say they are npip, just curious
idunno.gif
. another thing for the government to stick their nose into.
I'm new to all of this. I have no idea what NPIP means but I will look it up. All the eggs I bought online have been from out of state and this wasn't mentioned
I have a few Muscovy hens available if anyone is interested. My pen is getting too full & I need to make room for the other colors I have growing out. Duplicate colors are being sold. I post on here & craigslist & facebook. I actually get a lot of sales from here & craigslist. Just started posting on facebook, so we shall see. If would be interested in Guineas (maybe) depending on age & colors & price. $45 was actually about twice what I planned on since I was after bottle babies & they sold them with the mommas instead. I wanted 2 or 3 but only had money for 1 because of the way they sold. The bottle babies usually go for $5-25. Pepper is spoiled already...lol Not sure about PA, but we are allowed to free range with NPIP in Ohio. You only get in trouble if you get caught. I have been NPIP for over a year, yet have only ever sent paperwork with 1 set of eggs & only then because they requested it. I have shipped birds & only written my NPIP number on the inside flap of the box & nowhere else, no paperwork attached or anything & they all got there fine. It's usually not monitored at all, but if it does happen to get checked then you could be in trouble. They will be 10-12 weeks old before it even starts to actually get cold. They will be fine. I toss mine outside with no heat as early as 3-4 weeks once temps are staying above 40F at night.
Wow. I thought that was a good price. I'll have to check out the auctions instead of Craigslist. I've only been to building supply auctions, never an animal one.
Thanks for the info on the auctions. I may check out the 84 auction, assuming it is in or near 84. That is only about 40 minutes from me.
If you go let me know what it is like. I really want a goat and a few more breeds of chicks.
Im looking for anyone in the washington pa area that is selling nice looking silkie rooster and houdan rooster, ready for breeding
I have a white silkie rooster. Very friendly. I can get a picture tomorrow if you want.
yes, about the same for us, its about 9 miles before little washington , be careful right now at the exit, they're working on the road, (when aren't they) go toward 84, when you hit the light at 136, turn left, go about 3 or 4 miles, on left, humane society is on right, not hard to find, starts about nine with flower, veggie plants, then goes into tons of junk, then veggies, eggs, poultry, rabbits, small stuff in other words, then they take a break to eat and start with the big animals.
How long are you usually there for? Took the kids to a building supply auction at the same place and it was a disaster. Very long day for all of us :) Our huge family cookout is at my house on Sunday. I've been neglecting laundry and the house since we have been outside in the pool lately. I have sooooo much cooking and cleaning to do. Not easy when you have 3 little kids that makes messes faster than I can clean. Lol. Here is my youngest playing with the chickens while I was putting the new mulch down today.
