I took the last part of the testing this morning and passed !!! So happy I finally have been able to get it done! Chad, Thank you for pointing me in this direction. It wouldn't have happened if you didn't share the info. on the testing in the first place. Now, I can make sure my birds, along with anyone Else's that is interested is healthy. The vet that covers this area, along with many others, was so nice. She spent 2 hours here, at my home, going over everything I need to know, she showed me the blood draw on one wing and I did the other three. She also had me do the cocial(sp?) and esophageal swabs. She had so much knowledge to share, I could have picked her brain all day!

I don't know what that is or how you become one, but that sounds awesome! I have been racking my brains forever to figure out how to make a career out of chickens but can never come up with much. Sounds like you did it! Congratulations!

Yeah they are cute unfortunately but not something I need around - I did notice the other night when I opened the front door that there was that skunk smell but there was nothing around the yard, I look the flashlight out and had a look, guess it heard me coming.
believe me, if it heard you coming, it wasn't afraid, just probably already ambled away

even when little, already primed and loaded so they think nothing will bother them.

I think I would go with something that would deter them from coming instead of a trap. If you trap it somebody has got to get it out.

Even if you dispatch it in the cage, peeeeyou
That is what husbands are for!!!

I was sitting outside in the backyard one night in oklahoma, working on the laptop and BOOM skunk smell - that little bugger took 15 minutes to get to my back fence, wander through my yard before it continued on its way - talk about a stink!!

If we did get a trap and got one, i'd tell the 4yr old to go let it out, maybe that will scare him into behaving and minding his manners

Thank you everyone!! I am so excited...the vet gave me a contact number of a guy that does alot with the 4-H in Clinton Co. With the shows and activities going on right now and in the near future, I could have quite a bit of "hands on".

I will just be waiting for license & supplies to get here, then I can get into things.
Eggs are on lock-down tonight....hoping there is at least one little one to look after. Nothing too dramatic happened with temps. or humidity, so fingers are crossed. I am thinking this is something I can really get into... more eggs in the future.., I don't even care if they are mine or someone elses..hahaha

....Yes, I am hooked and I didn't even hatch anything yet..

i understand the stinky part, sometimes one travels down the dry creek bed outside out bedroom window late at night, early in the mornings, smells like he crawled into bed with us
gig.gif
, we caught one in a live trap, almost pure white, thought it was one of our cats at first, when husband went to let it out, found out it was a skunk, told him to cover it with a blanket or something so it couldn't see him, and then open the door, it finally woke up that evening and went on its way. if we catch another thats wanting to spray us, will call oldest granddaughter, shes crazy, thinks they smell good

ARGGH!

I have a chocolate Muscovy baby that I didn't know was a scovy when I bought it at the car show... IT KEEPS PICKING AT THE OTHER DUCKLINGS BLOOD FEATHERS!!! What is wrong with it!!! I am tired of it! I heard the babies yelling this morning and I go running out to find them all looking at me like I am the idiot..  stood there eye balled them and then on about 3 of the white scovy ducklings are bleeding from their wings and one of the ducklings I am not sure what they are.  How do I get it to stop???? Is it deficient in something??? I never had this with any other duckling besides scovy.

I've read that feather picking can be a sign of low protein

Great looks like I will be buying a trap sooner rather than later.  I'll see what tonights webcam recon produces first lol

we got a pretty big raccoon in the trap last night. We took it, and the two from last week and dropped them at a taxidermist in Philly this morning. Just as a donation. The taxidermist is a young woman, she showed my son around her studio and gave him a momento, it was very cool.

Is anyone headed to the dragon.???I am thinking about it since the rain means I cannot do much else...

I'm gonna miss you again! Boo.
