Hi All,
Was lurking and saw the threads regarding the microscope...I think I can get a microscope for anyone here who likes...I'm a teacher and our district had about a hundred fifty we've been getting rid of. I managed to get about 75 to schools in Nicaragua and I think some were slated to go to Haiti, but i think some are not yet spoken for. Before I get people started on the rant about wasting taxpayer money, the reason they're being replaced is that our modernized classrooms are just too dark (energy-efficient and smart board friendly) to use the old mirrored scopes in, so our district spent a fortune instead upgrading to electric and computer-integrated scopes. I still think the lens quality in these old workhorses is better, but hey, they don't ask me....finding them new homes has been tougher than I thought, in part because they're heavy and expensive to ship. At least in large numbers. If anyone is interested, I can check and see if I can get any, then we can figure out best way to get it to you.

If you have an extra one, I'd be interested.....though only if its a left over....if you have schools that can use them, they should have dibs...I am located in Malvern, PA....PM me with your locale and I maybe able to come and get it...also, if there's other folk in SE, PA I maybe able to facilitate for them also...

and if anybody bitches at you, the proper response is "pull my finger"....TIA!

Okay, I'll try to get in touch with school and find out if there are still some microscopes that are homeless. And by all means if you know of any academic use for them, let me know, maybe I can coordinate moving a few dozen. I too have been kind of shocked how hard it is to give these away! Most schools either have newer ones already or don't have storage space for a class set.
I'm actually a Long Island NY resident, but my family (and half my flock) is just south of Scranton, so I drive the Water Gap to 380 route fairly often.

Let me know the cost including shipping. I do a lot of lessons at home with the kids and this would be a great addition to our home classroom.

#3 is out, with help this-morning..long story short..wrapped in inner-membrane, yolk fully absorbed & blood vessels...chick was 'stuck' and weak.....Now, chick is walking around bator and looking very well!
No new pips from other eggs, but still have time...had to remove the other two chicks because they were 'Pecking' at the #3..., they are now relaxing and happy in the brooder. There is water(with rocks) and FF(chick starter)...some pics...

slowly 'chipped' away the shell, to find extremely dry and stuck membrane(s)...swab to moistened...had all night to come out on its own...it didn't get any farther, so I intervened....glad I did

....#1 checking out #3 after I put it back into bator for it to finish w/ the umbilie-cord on it's own....

#3 getting it's legs...looks like it will have 'penguin' markings..needs more time to dry-out

#2 has a white-mustache and big white butt...#1 mostly black with little white on chest...can't wait to get #3 in there with them, but am keeping it in the bator for awhile...the other eggs need some more "bowling time"

* Annie- hope your girl is doing better..have you been able to pin-point the problem yet?
