My egg numbers have been down for several weeks. Last night I did realize that they aren't too bad on a weekly basis, so I was feeling much better.
As for broodies, I signed in to say that one week shy of taking the 2 moms (and an Ameraucan who's broken leg is as healed as it is going to get) and putting them back in the layer pen, my other JG went broody. I thought I wanted my hens to go broody. Then I went 16 chickens over my goal number (and 6 over capacity).

Ditto. Actually, the first one began last week. 2 more joined her this week. I have one LH I still haven't gotten out of the grow out pen (I mistook a White Rock for a Leghorn when I was moving them in the dark). She hasn't begun yet, but I am sure she will when I move her.
Congrats on the new layers, though. It is always exciting! I am still grinning at seeing white eggs again.

I do want an opinion. I am pretty sure I have mentioned this before, but I have 2 EE that began laying back in February (or January) and stopped at the end of April. Not a single egg since. They are happy and look healthy. No mites or anything. The other 2 girls in the pen are laying fine. If I had an egg eater, I think I would have seen at lest one blue egg in all this time. Any thoughts as to why this is happening?

I love the way my birds often answer my questions right before I ask them on here. I was going to ask if anyone else has had nearly 10 cockerels (all 14 wks or older) and only have one crowing. Right as I was thinking of asking, Copper and one of the NH boys crowed, much quieter than Jäger but they're still crowing. Now if the girls would start laying we'd be golden...lol. I know the Leghorns still have about 2 weeks before I should even begin looking, but I'm getting almost as excited as I was in my 9th month with Gavin.

Morning all!   Nice coolish morning so far but that will change with the heat advisory.  Everyone be careful out in the heat today!

Good morning Tweetr! It really is a beautiful morning. I took an out of date can of peaches up to the coops this morning and let play a little chicken take away. I love that game. Cracks me up every time. It was a nice peaceful morning...before the kids get up and the day begins.

No pics but my broody hen just hatched her first chickie yesterday! Saw part of eggshell in barn yesterday and just went to feed the chickens and there was the lil guy peekin out from momma! No chance to take a pic but I will sometime today! Now, question...will the other chickens hurt the lil ones? I'm thinking go all natural and let chickens be chickens.
