I think most of us are still stunned that you have a coop before the chickens. I certainly wasn't that prepared.
Hey everyone. jsut found this thread. I live in south central Pa.
Can anyone give me some pointers on increasing egg production? I have 8 total hens laying now (orphington (3) delaware (2) austrolpe (2)). I average 4 eggs a day. I have never gotten 8 eggs in a day.
I feed Tractor supply layor crumble and scratch grain.
New water everyday.
What am I missing.
Not a thing! It does matter what breed you have as CC said. Other ideas are (in this heat) to offer frozen fruit and vegetables. And you can get into fermented feed (FF). One bucket half filled with feed, about 1/4C of Unpasteurized Apple Cider Vinegar, and enough water to cover the feed. Stir once in the morning, and once at night. The first batch will be done in about 12 hours.
There are tons of nutritional benefits, as well as saving money. After about a month, the chickens will eat less food, have less stinky poo, lay better, have healthier digestion, and shinier feathers.
You can add more feed and water daily, or wait until it is near the bottom of the bucket. You don't need more ACV. And when you make your first batch, you will see bubbles (that make me laugh) or if you make it drier, you will see a white cap that may even have a crack pattern. You will also notice it expands a lot!
And, welcome to the thread!!
