You made me think about smoothies... I think I would have made the chickens some smoothies to go with the fruit. They would love the yogurt in them.
I thought about it for a bit and I made them a smoothie lol it was a huge hit, they were falling all over each other to get to it.

Re: possibly being stunned that I have a coop before the chickens....................well its still not done!

I have doors that need to be cut and hung and wire for the windows to put on....................and some type of lock or latch system

Plus I am making the run and have found I just don't have enough wire stuff...............so its gonna be a piecemeal start up..............even with all I have done..........

I just cant do that much in this heat...........

there are also limits of how much construction I can do indoors!

UGH

I am still excited and

worried.

Hoping the new chickens will not be so stressed with moving day to new place in such hot weather AND then they say thunderstorms sat night

so how will they do spending their first night away with a new set of bunkmates in a thunderstorm?????? Hope they are resilient!

I still have not bought their food! I HAVE made 3 waterers though!

so much to do!

I am like an expectant mom!

also someone ask what I was getting..............I am getting pullets not chicks....................

Hi all! Last day of vacation at the campground. It's been nice but ready to head home! It's hot!! Knoebels was fun but hard to enjoy in the heat. I miss my chickens and tomorrow is lockdown for my eggies. Been trying to catch up on posts. It was nice to get away with family for my birthday. :)

todays rant....its an awful year for gardening....everything is late or not producing at all....the only thing growing well is Kale and the chicks won't touch it....duh

Same here. I got everything in on time but I haven't got any harvest except sugar snap pea and soon onions. The tomatoes are still green and the peppers are still small, and I still don't have any pumpkins or squash on the vines. I guess it's the weather.

I live right next to Tannersville. Last night some thing big was by my koi pond, the feed buckets were knocked over. One was in the pond, even when its windy the buckets stay put and there was no wind last night. Now I am worried that the bear was by. Hopefully he stays away.
If it was the same one hopefully it has moved on

. I've noticed, at least with the bear that come near my house, it's usually the juveniles that do the most damage and come the closest to the house. They are usually broken of that after the first two or three warning shots (blanks), only twice have I or my Dad had to use non-lethal rounds (ones with actual projectiles) on a bear after living here for nearly 30 years. We haven't had to kill one yet, or even had to call the PAGC about nuisance bear, other things yes but not the bears. Now I've always had outdoor dogs at my house, but at my parents' (before that my grandparents' and less than 300 feet away) there's never been an outdoor dogs, and they get bear right up on the porch. Whereas the closest I've ever seen a bear to my house was one drinking from the garden pond last year while the dogs were in during a hot spell. It was a cub and ran off as soon as I opened the door so I didn't even worry about getting the gun with the blanks, I only use it if they don't run off when I open the door or are in the garbage.

Personally I worry more about snakes and coyotes than I do bear. But I have borderline phobia with snakes, we've had dogs that have gotten loose and been attacked by coyotes.
