Western PA in the 'Burgh'..go Steelers! Looking for a few Orpington girls. I have two Buffs & will be getting 1 or 2 more in the fall but would love another 1 or 2 of any other color. Anyone within a 40 mile radius that has any of those chickens to sell, gimme a shout. Not looking for small chicks, like them to be around 4-5 months old if possible. Very new to this chicken farming but enjoying it so far. Got our first egg yesterday but none today, guess they are a little sporadic when they are first getting started. Thanks.

Welcome to the thread Vicki! There are a few of us from the Pittsburgh area but I can't think of anyone locally with any BO's. you might be able to order some pullets from Meyer Hatchery. Good luck and Go Steelers!

omg...my little roo has begun his mission.....well, a couple of the more senior girls have decided to play 'cock blocker' and won't let the boy near the girls he's already covered....pretty funny....he tried twice today and was chased of by a pair of the big girls....is this normal behavior???
this is very funny! can you just picture a chicken comic strip that captures this activity! hilarious and true!

There's 20 pages of posts, no way am I gonna read them...sooo....

If anyone listed their zip in the thread, pm me and I'll add you.

I have a feeling with it getting closer to the wedding and just general business I won't be on nearly as often. Don't be surprised if it takes me a week or so to get back to you.

Welcome newbies and new chicks if there are any!

Hey Guys I know I have asked before but I really need to get rid of my roos... I have 2 Mottled Houdans and 1 White Crested Black Polish roosters. I know I want to get rid of 2 for sure still havent made up my mind whether or not I want to give up the third. They all get along well. If anyone wants them or knows anyone in the gettysburg area that would take them that would be great!

Oh one more thing! I am having a hard time getting my chicken to drink outta their chicken nipple water....I brought three new hens into the mix who knew how to drink out of them and even they have gone back to drinking out of the bowl.(thought maybe they could teach my other chicks how to use it) Any ideas or suggestions on how to get them to start drinking out of this thing so i dont have to change dirty water all the time?

Mine HATE the nipple waterers....they'd rather drink disgusting water out of the kids sled than drink from the nipple waterer...so I just give up, and give them lots of buckets to drink from.

well, looks like its going to be a long night, a skunk sprayed outside close, dh thought he got our schipperke the way he was acting, but i don't smell it on him thank the good lord, but it does really stink in the house now and theres no wind to blow the stink away and the air cond. seems to be pulling it in and as hot as it is, have to have the cool air. dh says, doesn't care how cute the babies are, going to kill them on sight from now on. stupid skunks.

Yay! Another member from our side of the state! Welcome!
Storms with heavy rainfall rolling through Pittsburgh area from the west. Run for cover chickens!!!
I was the one running for cover! I was in the middle of cleaning out the coop when the rain hit. I've noticed some digging by the run but couldn't tell if it was from the chickens or not. They love to dig on the inside so I thought they did the small hole on the outside too. Last night it was bigger and appeared to go under the run. It was late so I blocked it off with a log. There were 2 silkie eggs in the bucket ( the silkies won't use the nest box. They lay in the run). I left them and intended to get them this morning to put in the incubator. I went out bright and early and the eggs were gone, the log was moved and the hole was bigger. Whatever it was didn't get to the chickens. Any guesses? I've noticed we are going through a lot of feed. Now I'm thinking if its a rodent it could be eating the feed too. I put gravel all around the outside of the run tonight in hopes to slow it down.

I hate that smell! I'm hoping the ones that were digging up my yard moved on. I was smelling them a few times a week but lately no smell or holes all over my yard. Now I just have to fi d out what got into my run last night. Hope the smell dies down soon for you.
