There's 20 pages of posts, no way am I gonna read them...sooo....

If anyone listed their zip in the thread, pm me and I'll add you.

I have a feeling with it getting closer to the wedding and just general business I won't be on nearly as often. Don't be surprised if it takes me a week or so to get back to you.

Welcome newbies and new chicks if there are any!
way to busy to keep up also....I end up skipping pages, hopefully not missing the good stuff
Quote: way to far for me also.....need more local things going on.

Quote: It is a shame that they have to be such a nuisance......my 5 year old granddaughter asked if we could feed them out in the field so then they will leave the chickens alone.......if only this was possible..
of course if this was possible i would go broke feeding all the different critters just so i could watch them..

So Gavin nearly had a front row seat to a chicken porn this morning. (The girls ran away before Jager or Copper could do their thing) The conversation:
Gavin- What are they doing?
Me- Trying to make chicks.
Gavin- Yes! Go get 'em boys! I want some chicks.

A little while later I notice Gavin's watching Jager and Copper closely. All of the sudden he says, "Come on boys, get with the chick making!"

It took all I had not to burst out laughing...

That relieves my mind...I sure would hate to have to get rid of her so I hope I'm waiting for an egg! When I purchased them I chose the 2 different sizes & comb sizes hoping to make it easier to tell them apart as they aged. There is just SOOO much to learn about chickens! Thanks for your responses. By the way, I had friends located in Bloomsburg & used to visit there occasionally but that was many years ago.

I had maggots in the chick's FF today. Anyone else ever have this problem? I did let them eat some of the feed, but tossed the rest. I am not making them a new batch until someone can tell me why there were maggots in there (and if it is okay for the chickens to eat them).

Checking out the new nest box. I put plastic easter eggs in. They decided they should try to eat them....

new roost bars

plastic easter eggs to give the girls a "hint" of where to lay there eggs.
I love these types of nest boxes except with broodies,,,,I have 5 broodies camping out in a similar nest box right now,,,,the only way to take the eggs from them is to reach in head first,,,I have lost blood over those eggs...

will not hurt them,,,old timers used to grow maggots on purpose to feed to critters,,,it was a protein snack similar to mealworms..as to why they are there not sure, wouldn't think fly eggs could survive in the ferment.

I used eggs that I blew out then filled with wax. So far they're just pushing them around.

I've given mine maggots that were in the FF and they love them, and if I'm not careful they'll get into the garbage looking for maggots. I do the loaf/crumble type FF and they're always on the top most layer, I don't know if you do that or whole grain, but I know that's why I have them.
