Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Just lost the Cochin. Breaks my heart, she really was a pretty little thing. I dropped the OE at New Bolton Center for necropsy so at least I'll know if it was something contagious. Spoke to the doc today, She says they've seen a few cases of kidney failure from lack of water among chooks lower in the pecking order. I do have more than one water source in the Cochin coop, I can't imagine her not being able to get water.

Oh no Blarney! I am so sorry to hear you lost her too. :(

Time to downsize the flocks a bit once again !

Just posted an ad in the classified's, 8 weeks and older.
Very productive season here,,, but, now the raccoons have decided to frequent the coops !

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes Blarney,,,, I lost one Blue Marans Roo, and 5 Longtail Phoenix in just 2 nights.

Difinitely have to find the right solution for this matter.

Had to have the kitten put to sleep yesterday. She was suffering. Vet said she could hardly hear her heart beat on the one side and suspected that she had fluid/blood building up in or around her lungs. Nothing we could do at that point but end her misery.

At least she is at peace now. Sorry I didn't respond yesterday, I was a bit upset....

Sorry

Long busy day here out and about all da*m day - so glad I am finally about to sit down and relax (after I go shut up the coop), did misc shopping for stuff around the house, groceries, got the chicks some more feed while we have the money, stopped into the hardware and bought a trap!! $38 for the big trap with a smaller one that came with it - BARGAIN!!!! After all of that went and got the kiddo and went to the local fair - omg couldn't wait to get out of there, what a money trap. Kaleb won a plastic trumpet which has since mysteriously vanished lol and the only thing that remains is my cracking headache

Oh and to top it all off, walmart screwed up my # so the people that were delivering the pool haven't been able to contact me - they'd been trying to since the 18th so needless to say my pool didn't arrive today and I have to now wait till tuesday ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hope everyone had a good day

Greek Yogurt and Rye Whiskey? Not a combo you would normally see together. Hope you get some sleep tonight. I dreamed that I shot a fox.

MCC I noticed the green toes too, matches the one rug.

Lost the OE last night, she was on her side when I found her yesterday, so I'm not surprised. The Cochin is still hanging in. I have her tucked away on a covered porch and our Alpha Roo found where I had the ladies stashed and is hovering. I think he's actually checking on them.
Oh they weren't at the same time. The whiskey was right before bed, I figure if they once used it for mouthwash it ain't gonna ruin my teeth. Sorry about your girls.

Anyone want some mixed chicks? I can also offer 2, 16-week-old GLW roos. They are nice looking, but I know they will be going into a pot. Just not mine!
I don't want the roos, but what kind of chicks?

Poor thing, sorry to hear.

Like you said she's at peace now, and has no more pain.

I was standing in the tub washing my feet off, and had the thought, "now I can let the chickens in here!"
LOL, that's what I thought when I got the one bathroom cleaned out when they were in the brooding box. I still can't understand why carpet in the bathroom was considered a good idea, at any time, or a kitchen for that matter.

I just went out and my leghorn rooster and hen are on topof the coop roof and won't come down. I had no choice but to lock the run up and leave them :( the rest of the hens are inside. I smell skunk so maybe they are the reason it sprayed and they are hiding? I will be heartbroken if something happens to them. I can't reach them and nothing is working to lure them down.

So what happened with this? Did you get them in or if left out, did hey survive the night?

So I have one of those "good problems to have". I have had one egg customer for a little while now. She would buy all my eggs every week. Well this week, I had 6 dozen eggs for her but she couldn't take them. So posted on a local community page on Facebook that I have farm fresh eggs available. I am now overwhelmed with people wanting eggs. I wish I had more laying hens!!!

Was a very long day. We started fixing the pond around 0830 and then had to move my sister out of the apartment she just moved into in May.
At least with all the rain we've had I was able to just about fill the pond in one shot, I'll top it off in the morning. The ducks were certainly happy with the pond though:

It's only a 12'x10' and about 2' deep but they were so happy to be able to do their "torpedo" moves and dunk/dive. I was still trying to get them out and go to bed in the run at 2300. They're worse than trying to get Gavin outta the pool...
