Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

They said they were going to "acquire" 2 birds from a neighboring seller and said quarantine was not necessary.

I said that I read on here that it was...................so its kinda like there is some misinformation out there...........

Quarantine is always necessary. Trust me. I thought the same thing. I thought people were being picky and over-cautious. I learned the hard way.

BBG, I hadn't thought about alcohol not hurting your teeth. Good point!
The chicks are most likely EE. The fathers are RIR or Ameraucana.
The kitchen is the next carpet to go.

Was a very long day. We started fixing the pond around 0830 and then had to move my sister out of the apartment she just moved into in May. At least with all the rain we've had I was able to just about fill the pond in one shot, I'll top it off in the morning. The ducks were certainly happy with the pond though: It's only a 12'x10' and about 2' deep but they were so happy to be able to do their "torpedo" moves and dunk/dive. I was still trying to get them out and go to bed in the run at 2300. They're worse than trying to get Gavin outta the pool...

Very nice! You are going to come do one for me, too, right? I moved the rest of these guys' siblings to the big pen w/ the big birds. I moved my turkeys to the kennel. Out of 12 BBBs, I have 5 left. I am NEVER getting BBBs again. I'll stick with heritage breeds.

Sorry to hear about your misfortunes Blarney,,,, I lost one Blue Marans Roo, and 5 Longtail Phoenix in just 2 nights. Thanks for all the compassion, everyone. Dropped off the Cochin at the lab today so Dr. Davison can compare the two. None of my birds have signs of respiratory distress that I can see, o I'm hopeful it's nothing serious. Difinitely have to find the right solution for this matter.
Phoenix! Oh no!!
So what happened with this? Did you get them in or if left out, did hey survive the night? So I have one of those "good problems to have". I have had one egg customer for a little while now. She would buy all my eggs every week. Well this week, I had 6 dozen eggs for her but she couldn't take them. So posted on a local community page on Facebook that I have farm fresh eggs available. I am now overwhelmed with people wanting eggs. I wish I had more laying hens!!!
This IS great news! I sold 3 dozen eggs yesterday, then turned around and bought 3 dozen from Costco for Devilled eggs (fresh eggs are hard to peel).

That is awesome! How much do you sell them for? Once I get more hens laying I'm going to do the same thing. I tried to get them to come in but they wouldn't budge. Once it got really dark I was too scared to go back out (hubby wasn't home). They survived the night, thank goodness!

When you boil fresh eggs put 1 tsp baking soda in the water. They peel without the shell sticking every time :)

My silkie is still sitting tight on her nest. I'm so excited to have my first broody!

I tried this for hard boiled eggs and it worked well http://www.familyfreshmeals.com/2012/11/how-to-make-perfect-hard-boiled-eggs-in-the-oven.html

Along with the other 2 methods mentioned I thought I would add the one that has worked for me. I routinely do deviled eggs for family events (sure makes for a great offering and we always can get them fixed without having to go to the store for special ingredients!

I thought I'd go nuts the first time I tried peeling fresh eggs, then I tried this method mentioned on a thread here on BYC.

Bring your water to a boil, while it is heating use a straight pin or sewing needle to poke a hole in the rounded end of the egg. You only need to poke it in a very short distance, just through the shell. I simply place them pointy side down back into the egg carton until I have all of them done. Then add them to the boiling water and set your timer to 14 minutes. (I prefer my eggs very hard boiled for my deviled eggs, shorten the time if you are looking for softer boiled eggs)
Once your timer goes off then drain off the hot water, and refill the pot with cold sink water and let it run over till it is reasonably cool. Then simply roll the egg on the counter to break open/loosen the shell and peel. I rarely have a stubborn egg now, even use the eggs laid that day without problem.

Finding that tip on BYC has saved me untold hours of frustration when peeling eggs!
