So my hens are all 6 moths old and to date we have gotten 1 egg. They are all RIR and possibly production breed. It was this past tuesday and we haven't gotten another one since. So obviously only one of the girls is laying but shouldn't she have continued to lay more than 1 egg in 4 days?
6 month old productions not laying? sounds off, If they are free~ranging, look EVERYWHERE, those biddies are fantastic at hiding eggs. If they are not ranging, my guess would be either these are some big birds and are not quite ready to lay, OR I would check for health issues, worms, bugs, ext. There is a chance that you've got a snake or critters stealing your eggs, but that would be last on my list to check.
Quote: Crack your eggs and look for the 'bull's eye' or throw em in the incubator and see what happens.

We are taking the plunge and heading to New York for the show in Bath. It's a combo show, 2 poultry clubs, 2 shows, one weekend. Anyone else in? The entries need to be post marked by tomorrow. I know this is last minute, but I had a hard time committing as we really don't have anything in 'show shape'. We're going anyway, only showing 4 birds are looking forward to seeing new breeders and having the kids do showmanship. Here's a little article on it:

So now there are 15 eggs in the ducks nest (possibly more since we counted yesterday) and she if finally pulling out down, so hopefully she'll be staying put soon. ETA: Gonna mark them today when she gets off it so I'm sure the Pekins aren't laying in there.

Couple more of the chickens have begun laying, so we're averaging 6 eggs a day, pretty soon we'll be getting enough for me to feel comfortable about trying to sell.

Had a great weekend so far, but Seth heads back up to Drum tonight. Thankfully he'll have a 4-day next weekend, but it could be 2 or 3 weeks until he can get another weekend pass. Dealing with him being in another country was easier than this

but he needs to be there, so I won't complain...much. The biggest pain is we're still planning the wedding while he's away, but at least he can come home to spend time with us and for the tastings and contracts etc.

Inventory time..........using chicken math I have 23 birds.....being more precise and realistic I am feeding 164 mouths, and still have 3 boxes of chicks due in the mail in the next 3 weeks......?

Have I not earned the title of crazy chicken lady...

I am counting meaties and quail in that also

Are those 3 boxes counting the 2 headed out from me tomorrow? lol

I had over 300 birds here not long ago. Think I'm down to around 200 now & a bunch of those are headed your way tomorrow.

Quote: your's are 1 of the 3

those numbers will be knocked way back in the next month or so.....need to go thru the roosters and see who stays for the winter...also have a few layers that no longer lay any thing, not sure what I will do with them yet...of course the turkey will not all stay after thanksgiving, and I will be picking thru the quail before winter sets in..

Hey Blarney:

Go for it...hope you kick some PA butt up north!!!!!

Well, when I went to close up the coops tonight, my count came up 1 short. One of my Australorps is missing. I guess there is a slight chance she is hiding somewhere sitting on eggs but if she is, I'm not sure she will survive with all the predators around here. Maybe she will be around n the morning or maybe I will see her with chicks in 3 weeks but I am not optimistic about that. I searched the property but didn't find any piles of feathers. Even though I have (had) 34 birds, I still hate losing any. Cross your fingers for me that she turns up!

That's one of the crappiest feelings EVER. Crossing my fingers your girl comes back!
