We have trouble keeping eggs around here once the kids get ahold of them: scrambled. omlets, hard boiled, deviled...
I used some thing like Bird X netting, actually a very strong fine mesh designed to go over whole fruit trees... Is 14 feet wide, so less splicing of sections. As someone pointed out though, I've not yet used it in snow. A 14x75 piece was about 20 bucks I think.http://www.homedepot.com/p/YARDGARD...oultry-Netting-308452B/202515214#.UiDK3nTD_ug
Probably going to get this for the top coverage, it is also what I have on the sides of the run (the ones that aren't fenced in). Is that okay? It is like a plastic green mesh.
Can not speak for the rest of you, but I AM TO OLD TO CHASE CHICKENS....little blanket blanks seem to know when I need to catch just one of them, and everyone else protects that one.....

Lowe's carries what they call "wildlife netting" which is $7 per roll. I have covered 2 runs with it so far & still have plenty to spare for the other 4 runs that are on the "build me list" for this weekend. It will NOT keep out a larger animal such as a raccoon or fox but does very well at keeping the birds in & flying predators & my cats out. I just run a support a foot or so above head height down the center of the run & loop it over the top. Zip ties work well to fasten it to the edges of the fencing. I can walk down through most of my run without ducking. The side fence is only 4ft, so I have to duck close to the edges but have go problems walking through the rest of the run.Remember how I told you guys my little Americauna chick went missing? Well, I was wrong. We have a window facing the run that I look through every hour when I am home to see if the babies are alright. When I looked today, I saw a kestrel plucking feathers out of one of my babies. I almost had a heart attack- and I know what happened to my Americauna now- there were a few of her feathers laying around the day she went missing but I thought it was from stress/ the rain. Boy was I wrong.
I feel awful right now. Could you guys repost the poultry netting you guys put up for me when I asked about it? I have to go get some ASAP
I have kids & a man to chase mine. I refuse to go sliding on my butt in a muddy run trying to snag a bird. That's what off-spring are for!!!Can not speak for the rest of you, but I AM TO OLD TO CHASE CHICKENS....little blanket blanks seem to know when I need to catch just one of them, and everyone else protects that one.....
