Cuteness OVERLOAD!! What that chick lacks in siblings, she makes up for with cuteness! Sorry you had such a bad hatch. We lock down tomorrow, 20 eggs left, although my son did the final candling and he tends to err on the side of caution, so who knows how many of those 20 are actually clear..
Hello All!I am SUPER new here and extra new to the world of 'chickening'. My husband and I are going to (hopefully) going to get 3-4 day old chicks next year for laying eggs. Two questions:![]()
-Does anyone know a less expensive way to get a starter coop? My budget is about 100$ and I am scouring Craigslist everyday. Hubby and I have no building experience, so making our own is out of the question.
-Does any kind soul want to be a young woman's chicken mentor? Maybe someone who lives within an hour that I could meet with for some 'chicken chat' occasionally. I am about mid-county.
I apologize if this post is in the wrong place, this is my first online forum post anywhere! Have a great day!![]()
But I am new to they chicken keeping myself and these folks have been nothing but helpful! I build my coop from old pallets and scrap wood. I did have to buy some of the siding wood, a window (was a basewindow from home depot 15 bucks) there was a place down the road that was re-doing their roof and when they were done I asked them if i could take come of the old shingles and I picked threw them and found once that were still in good shape. I have never built anything by myself before. I just did alot of research on there and online. And kinda came up with my own plan and I just started going to work. There were alot of time I stopped changed things or whatever I pretty much just winged it. As long as you have a saw, drill and measureing tape you can do it. I started mine in probably Feburary of this past year and didnt finish it till May. I just kept it in the garage and worked on it in the evenings....I think i had about 150-200 in mine when I was done. Thats everything from screws to paint to building my run and the wire for it. This is my little Master Piece I was quite proud of myself!
Thanks Stake for the link!
Brittany, your coop Taj Majal is gorgeous! I don't know if I could do something like that, but I may the wooden pallets route. I figure if I get pallets for free and I mess up, I haven't lost anything!
So tomorrow I will drive around with Hubby looking for pallets. I've already seen some nearby, I just will have to beg and plead.![]()
Does Anyone in Bucks County sell chicks in the late winter and early spring? Thanks!
Newbies looking for birds, I always ave many in all colors and ages....
