Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Thank you Cheralee! Thankfully, I did read about that on a gardening website a couple weeks ago, so I know what to look for. I should be picking some up near me tonight. Found them on Craigslist, woo hoo!

Thanks Stake, I think I may just get some little chickys off of someone here instead in the early spring; it would be better to have someone to bug with questions personally.

Did you guys insulate your coops? We do get some chilly days here in the winter. My Aunt in Bradford County did not, and her chickens seems fine.
Anne:

Chooks are the second oldest domesticated animals...given decent shelter they will get by without us(they are tougher than us)....lol...just make sure your breeds are cold hardy...I think your list all were....and don't believe Heather or Blarney with their Cochins and Orps...the friendliest breed imho are the dorkings.....and I have BOs. and they are friendly too..... its a fun process...enjoy and good luck!

Most of my Swedish Flower Hen flock (plus a silly silkie mix who wanted on that pen)
Some crested, most not. Five are of laying age, the rest should be in a month or two. I think there are 17, seven from purchased eggs, ten of my own. To many roosters, but I haven't decided who to keep, yet. Oh yeah, and there is a five week old in the brooder with some orpingtons.
Did you ever figure out the mix on that silkie?

Please be careful with all the rooster's. Once they turn that corner and start charging you they can never be fully trusted again,,,especially with kids.....they will do it again....not saying they will be evil or anything, but they will try their luck every chance they can..

Quote: You're welcome! The brand name & store brand plastic type bags work best. The plastic burlap & paper mill bags don't work nearly as well. The paper shreds if it gets wet & the woven bags fray if you cut them. If all you have is woven mill bags then leave them whole & fold them to fit as needed. All can be hosed as needed except the paper ones.

I never keep a mean roo. They get rehomed or go to freezer camp. I make sure anyone who takes them plans to send them to freezer camp as well.
