Just me being my sarcastic self....I have talked a bit with the folks at Pickering Feed....and they a selling alot more chicks than a few years ago...many, many more..I also talked with the guy who sold me my coop...and he's selling more coops...chooks are a growth industry...people want to eat more healthy and people want to be more self sustaining...(just my opinions...) just a reference, but there are three other backyard folks within a mile of me....think of the folks on here..Baym, Devon, LisaY, Wayne, me, Malvern, LC, Swathmore,....Glen Mills, Glenside, Media....all these places are not rural....I have also seen CLs for folks from West Philly, Collegeville, and a couple more surbabn areas ...just my two cents....

Not always a good thing, I read an article about this, and you are right, but the darn Hipsters are going to ruin this for us!

Where did you think the 'hip' in hippie came from.....anyway...I would take this as the opportunity to wear the weirdest hats you can find and to pull those orange converse allstars out of the closet, ...sorry but black turtlenecks are still off limits.....lol

I know, but hippies are so old school. I wear Teva sandals, not because they are cool, because they are comfortable. Been wearing them summer before they were popular. Long hair, ponytails kilts, just becausei liked them. Then they became the in thing. I hate when my style gets adopted. I strive to be the weird one! Most say I succeed.

Thanks chique's chicks for posting. Interesting article. I agree, keeping chickens is great, but KEEP your chickens to your self ( your property) and keep them well. No harm done to have a reasonable number of backyard poultry if they are well kept and not allowed to become bothersome.

On a side note, started my pallet coop! Yay for free pallets!

For all the backyard folks on here...just to let you know....you are officially 'hip'....real urban 'kewl'....kinda funny, I've never been that before....but, we are now the trend setters...this time next year, there will be x3 times as many folks with chickens...(so, get ready to fire up those baters, demand is growing!!!)

They are all velociraptors !!!!! Didn't believe it till I saw it myself. Now it's just cool to watch. Yep live traps for in the house to save a mouse. Can't help the trap opens and I trip into the chicken pen.

Oh no! So sad. What do you guys do with your birds after they stop laying? I think i will keep the ones I love and eat the rest...

And I cannot see that chicken hotel being a good idea. That is one big disease hub waiting to happen.
