Fisher:

Thanks for the validation of my thoughts...I have seen the tugs of setting the pecking order...just need to see my one errant(aggressive) bird can be made to be civilized ...getting ready to put my boat to sleep for the season....are you still fishing?

We put our boat away last week, Erie is done for the year.... the lake is averaging 3 to 4 footers much of the time and no fun going out in that. River fishing for cats is still on the table if weather permits, but right now most days off have been spent gathering, splitting and stacking firewood. We heat with a cast iron pot belly stove, so it keeps us busy!

Lisa:

I am in a situation that there is no clear pecking order...and its unsettling to all the birds..its a PIA....and its escalating not abating over time...I am going to give it some time, but one Marans may be banned from the group....and live in the grow out pen....after a month or two she may re-integrate into the flock if not I'll trade her out...her bloodlines are good.....

We have had to cull out 'problem birds' for the good of the flock.... sometimes they are just too extreme. Removal from the flock for a few days may be enough to settle them down also. Pecking orders are rarely status quo, there are usually some type of squabbles going on. Having changes in the flock just makes it way more problematic.

I try to shuffle mine all at the same time, if I'm selling some, I move the up and coming bunch into the coop I'm selling from on the same night. That way the shake up can work itself out all at once.

Stake, I still haven't started my cider, been too busy to get into Downingtown, I think tomorrow is the day.

these recent posts have got me thinking......................my girls seem to be getting along sooo nicely..............why would I want to mess with that?

I the late winter / spring I am planning on getting chicks................maybe keep them separate for longer than I intended? why rock the boat so to speak? not sure..............all this drama with a bunch of girls co-habituating! sheesh.................

Not cold or cough. He's been having stomach pains and diarrhea since he was 14 years old. He is 16 now. Finally got the doctor tod run the right tests last year and found out his gall bladder was no good and had it removed that summer. After the surgery he did ok for maybe a week and them he was vomiting and diarrhea after everything he ate and drank and very bad pains again. My friend who had her gall bladder out said to tell the GI doctor its bile reflux. He is on medication for that. Was doing great and was able to back to school this year. He hasn't been to school this entire month. He has horrible diarrhea and severe abdominal pain again. Immodium isn't helping. He says he feels like he is dying with the pain. He says it urts to eat. Doctor says it's IBS now. That's what they say when they don't know what's wrong.

My friend had her gall bladder out in June and has been having similar problems. She has been to several doctors and they keep running different tests. She is scheduled for another one where they put the tube down your throat. I can't remember what it's called. I'm so sorry your son is going through this. Keep pushing and go from dr. To dr. If you aren't getting the right answers. Best of luck.

Anyone looking for 2 barn cats? I have 2 young males, born this spring and I'm not sure it's going to work out to keep them. Not neutered yet, about 1/2 hour north of Harrisburg. Free of course.

I assume they've checked him for Crohn's? Other than that I'd have no clue. Hopefully he feels better soon, and they figure out what's wrong.
Gotta love blanket diagnosis like that, thank goodness they don't have many of them anymore. I was reading about hysteria and everything it covered 100+ years ago, nearly anything wrong with a woman.

Lol. I only get rottweilers looking at me in the bathroom. I remember one time when we first moved to Pa, I was taking a shower. I was alone in the house and shut the bathroom door and the next thing I know the shower curtian opened. I screamed like a little girl. My poor rottweiler just stood there wondering what she did wrong. Lol I thought some masked murderer was coming to kill me lol.
Sonya (our current Lab) has done that many times, and then she climbs in with me. She jumped into the tub with me when she was about 12 weeks old. That was interesting, Gavin was finally asleep so I decided to take a nice long soak, finally relax with my eyes closed. Next thing I know I'm wiping water outta my eyes and she's just sitting on my lap/stomach looking at me as if to say "I love ya Mom. I was lonely"...Be nice if I could get "someone" to remember to close the door when he leaves the bathroom

was wondering about those 'presents'...hahaha....I am glad to hear the two of you hanging-in there! I cannot say I know why things happen..not even gonna try....but I do know that laughing is the biggest reason I get through....can't forget the little things are mostly the best things!...
Yep, and he certainly has a knack for knowing just when his momma needs a good laugh.

Gonna need another soon...
Had to take one of my parents' dogs to the vet today. (Now my parents sleep with Sophie (a pom), 3 beagles and a lab in their bed and an occasional cat or 3

.) I guess what happened was the beagles decided it was time to play early this morning and Sophie snapped at them. When she did that one of the larger dogs grabbed her. She hid under my parents' bed until about 1700, when I finally coaxed her out and she was dragging herself using only one paw. She has three puncture wounds on the back of the neck near the spine, is not walking/standing, and has no correction reaction in 3 outta 4 feet (you bend the foot backwards at the wrist/ankle area and they should correct it right away). Vet and I agreed that an x-ray most likely wouldn't show any damage, as it's probably all soft tissue damage. So we have her on an antibiotic for the bite, a pain med, a muscle relaxer and an anti-inflammatory. If she shows improvement by Sat she "may" recover, if no improvement or she's worse it'll be best to put her down. It really sucks as she was my Mam mam's dog, until she passed a few years ago, and she's really not that old for a toy breed.

I have Broody Banty who is now on her 3rd batch this year, its now really cold at night should I put a light next to her box to help heat her area or do you think she can through enough heat off for the chicks when they hatch? She's such a good mom...really hate to see her lose any chicks.

Reyvaughn, I think you'll get a kick outta this. Nettie has been trying to follow us into the house all the time. Well yesterday Gavin decided to let her in while I was in the shower. I step outta the shower and she's just standing there in front of me staring, baas at me and trots outta the room...took me a bit to realise what the h*** had just happened. I'm sure the look on my face would've been priceless...poor girl probably had nightmares last night.

I used to bring her in the house when I first got her. Make sure to goat proof everything if it's going to be a regular thing, LOL!
... I miss that little PITA. I miss her cute little brown eyes begging me for treats. Or a tree branch to be pulled down.
