So now the Big Guy is on board with me having chickens, do I go with the $400 one at Calico Creek Feed and Pet in Mill Hall or do I try to build a Lake Norman Coop? I have never had chickens before. Closest thing to it was a cockatiel 30 years ago.

Welcome ! I have only had parrots too. Read some books, and pay attention here, and you'll find all you need to know. Also, with encouragement from everybody on here, I have built my own coop with no building experience or expensive materials (most were free, actually). I'm still finishing it up though. :fl

:welcome

Anne, I stopped working on a coop in April after I ran into the nest box dilemma...I need this coop up and out there...hope I can figure a way.

Aw, that stinks! I am on my way to Lowe's today today to get L brackets to attach my nest box. I made legs out of two 2x4s screwed together to make... Tada: a 4x4. :D. I'm in the home stretch! I have a little hiccup with the roosting bars, but I I will figure it out.

I know my nest box solution won't work for anyone else. My coop is cinderblock, so therefore attaching nest boxes is not possible. My nest boxes are an old bookcabinet, divided into 6 sections..

Thanks anyways for sharing! :)

Hello Everyone! Life has been keeping me off of the computer lately.

Helllo to all the new members! I'm sorry to hear about those of you dealing with illnesses and your family members also. Cancer is a horrible, horrible disease.

I'm impressed by those of you who can food shop once a month. I go every week and even with coupons, price matching and buying what is on sale, I spend more than I would like. We go through at least 4 gallons of milk a week and 5 boxes of cereal a week.

My white rocks still haven't laid an egg yet. They were born the first week of april. My leghorn stopped laying 2 weeks ago. I haven't had fresh eggs since :( My one white rock hen that was born with deformed legs died. I found her in the coop. Nothing attacked her so I'm guessing natural causes.

My husband started working on my new coop. The run is done now he just has to make the actual coop and nest boxes. I will post pics as soon as he gets off of my ipad!!

I hope everyone had a happy Halloween. I've had about 20 pieces of candy in the last 2 days!

My daughters were hula dancers and my son was steve from minecraft. His costume took forever to make.....and of course it poured on Halloween so the cardboard got soaked. But he loved it and that is all that matters!

Here is the coop so far. He used metal lath instead of chicken wire and attached it to the bottom too. The run floor will be covered with dirt and leaves. He said this is it and he is not building a new one next year :)

This morning I learned the importance of my run... Looked outside the window around 8am and there was a fox sitting by the run just sitting there staring at my chickens. I should of took a picture, because it was a bit humorous too, there's no way of the fox getting to my chickens

Oh boy minecraft... My youngest brother is obsessed with that game and I don't think I know a kid in grade school who isn't!

And I got soaked at the wrong time yesterday too. To start my day yesterday I got soaked by a random downpour while wearing a suit and tie.

Anyone in the harrisburg area have any hatching eggs for sale? I had ordered some and only have one developing trying to find some ASAP so I can have them hatch very close to the same time as possible. I'm flexible on breeds would just prefer not to ship bc I haven't had good luck with that. Pm me if possible if you might have anything. Thanks!!
