Because her Dr was closed when we found it. Her Dr has an answering service and he called me back and said to take her to e.r. cuz they could make sure they remove it the right way so the head didn't get left. If it was me, I probably wouldn't have went, but when it comes to my kids I won't chance it. No offense taken.

Oh okay. Now I understand. I was just confused as to why it was such an "emergency". :)

I understand that. Why not just go to the doctor? I got bit by one two weeks ago. It didn't look good 3 days after so we went to the doctor. The doctor wasn't gonna give antibiotics but my mom said it would really make her feel better if she gave me some. I got one dose. That's all they would give me.
I am a biologist....we are into tick areas all the time and its not uncommon to pull them off myself. Usually they wont give us anything if we were to go to the doctor unless you start showing the signs of it. If you keep taking antibiotics for things and you dont need them then your body gets used to them and they become useless. (part of the reason why lyme keeps getting worse over the years) Along with people who are sick and dont take all their meds like they are suppose to it gives the infection or virus the chance to change enough that the antibiotics stop workig for that strain of the virus. Most of the time doctors give out meds just to shut people up since when we are sick we think we need something to feel better. (No Offense to anyone)

I know lyme can be very serious if you dont treat it. Most of the time you can get it without having the bullseye mark. Only about 1 and 5 people display this mark. (I think thats what I was told last time it might be 1 in 4) And most of the time the tick doesnt have lyme. There are different stages in a ticks life cycle and there is only a stage in this cycle where it can pass lyme.

I understand. When I went to the doctor, I had a big welt and bruise where the tick was and it was really itchy. She said the only reason she gave the antibiotics was because we had no clue how long it was on there and it could have been on longer than 36 hours.

Today's Harvest! We've had figs on this tree for the past 3 seasons. We've never harvested any as they are never ripe when the frost hits. My neighbor told me I could pick em and let em ripen on the counter. Hope she's right.

Oh, and made it to the dentist today. Root Canal. She had to stop the procedure half way through as it was too infected. Now not only is it painful, but 1/2 my face is swollen. Blech.

I am so jealous! About the figs... I have been after fresh figs for years and no one local carries them. Well... Giant does now. $5 for 6 and they are half rotten.

Sucks about the root canal. Hopefully you can get it fixed up soon!

My hen is straining really hard and blood is coming out! PLEASE help, I posted in the emergency section.
This sounds pretty serious, keep her warm, separate her from the flock, make sure food and water are available to her. Was she injured? I wish I had better advice for you.

She passed it, but she still has dried albumen/diahrrea all over her bum feathers. I'll probably bring her in tonight and give her a bath and let her back out tomorrow. She just drank a whole bunch, but still won't come for treats. :( She seems much better.
