Well, today was a good day... until I came home.

Miriam wasn't in the coop. I knew right away. I looked around, and found her body, beheaded, under a bush behind the coop. The work of a raccoon.

I just realized, no more blue eggs, and no more baby easter eggers on easter.

I'm actuall maddest because i don't really like my rooster. He's a little pooper that flogs me occassionally but I keep him around for protection. He didn't protect much obviously.

We think the raccoon walked up the ramp into the coop and took her ou to the bushes and ate her. We were out because Christmas and didn't get home until 10.

I have a bunch of ee chicks available if you need some. Ages range 3 weeks to 4 months.

Could be Fox or Coon.Grinners are usually scavangers.We kinda keep all critters under control around here.

Anyone on here having Kraut for the New Year?Made a 5gal bucket of reg and 2 heard of purple to try.Just froze the reg but kept some out for next week.The purple won't be ready till end of Jan.

Chippy, not sure of your location, but alot of us have ee, I have lots also if you need....sorry for the loss, it is a hard time of the year for critters, those predators are hungry.

Grandpa,,,Kraut, I would love some, only thing is I will not be making any,,,,kraut an liver are the only two things I am forbidden to make in the house, everyone gags over just the smell...only eat those things when going out for dinner.

hubby surprised me this morning and turned off my alarm,,he went and did the basics, so I can now take my time and go out to do things later... and I have off till monday,,think I will work on cleaning the house,,,,

the house is what never gets done..it is not a high priority for me and it is showing.

Ray (chicques) did your neighbor ever get those ducks processed,,,I am having a hard time with the cleaning of ducks and need some practice if they need help ...I either tear the skin up or can not get all the down off....which is ok for my use but not to sell

Wingstone - now, they still have then all. I think they are deciding what to keep. I know they have excess frames, and since they have different breeds housed together have to decide which to settle on keeping. I'll let them know you want practice. They know where you live, since they got straw from your hubby last year. I also know they would like help on the processing end of things, so it would help both of you.

So sorry CM...I know there is no replacing her exactly, but there are a lot of people here that could help you recover some....so sorry again.

Just got back from dropping my Mom off in Delaware County. People weaving all over on the roads.

We (Todd & I ) had the pleasure of doing something we never had before....we went to the movies last night to see the "The Hobbit-Desolation of smog"..it was awesome...didn't want it to end..of course there is going to be another one!!! Can't wait....we have never gone out on Christmas day..always has the kids..or entertaining others...well, this was the first of many years we will see on our own..so ..off on our own we went!! Had such a great time...it is sooo weird..different, but cool

Enjoy the day, this is something we started to do a few years ago to avoid the crowd and hustle of it all...we go to see everyone on christmas eve, then it is home alone on christmas day......I like this way so much better,...my daughter does also, since the kids never want to go away after opening toys

incubators are turned off and I would like to keep them off for awhile....

Chippysmom...... so sorry about your hen. Never easy to loose one, and seems worse at Christmas time.

All of our birds are hanging out in the coop and covered run area except for the Buckeyes and the Barred Rock who hatched with the buckeyes. They really don't seem to care about the cold and are out and moving as soon as we open the gate. Molt is done with here and we are now getting about 15 or 16 eggs a day from our girls. Our May and June girls finally started laying so we are getting more than we need! Though the girls earned their keep this week. We made a roaster of 250 meatballs, 6 meatloaf, 40 dozen cookies and 2 dozen deviled eggs and had Christmas breakfast here with another 13 eggs or so used for that..... and no eggs had to be bought , so happy about that!

I am ready for a long winters nap now!
