I think Sally went AWOL again so this goes out to anyone with npip status,,,,are any of you in lancaster county that can do your own testing.....let me explain a little, I have no interest in npip for I very seldom sell eggs or chicks, but after watching what Bruce has been going thru, I feel that even as a small backyard flock, it is everyone's responsibility to know what the flock in your yard is carrien around with them....I am under no illusion, for I feel that 90% of flocks are harboring something that just does not show......but if my flock is a carrier than I feel I should be able to warn others...no I would not cull for simple things, but I would close the flock and send nothing out alive...

not wanting to start a big health debate here, just looking for someone who will come do some random testing for a reasonable fee.....looking to test for more than just what is covered in npip....really more of a random thing...

side note......great pics....I knew someone had to get chicks for christmas, this is a chicken site after all...

Ray, bet there's more of a market than you would think.

speaking of farm show,,, if I go this year it will have to be sunday, I hate going that day, to crowded

must get pics of the 6 bantam cochin that came from Blarney, ended up being 2 roo 4 hen...point to this is that my serama roo who likes to roam around is insistent on getting into this pen,,,,half tempted to let him,,,,wonder what those chicks would look like...anyone have that combination ??

My "flock" (I would call them a pair, but the hen hates the roo) dustbathing today :) It's so nice, I got so much stuff done outside.

Gorgeous!! That's a lot of chicks to overwinter, you are dedicated! Do you show? I know you have to be careful with that breed when transporting so you don't mess up their tail feathers. What kind of incubator is that? I think it may be time for me to invest in a 'real' incubator. I am suffering through a terrible hatch right now, pretty sure my temps were off.
I have not shown yet, but I hope to in the future. The incubator is an Rcom 20 and is completely digital. Temperature varies only by +-.1 degree and humidity when set also varies by +-.1 degrees. The only thing I need to do is to keep the water pan filled.

These pics are for Wing...

Chicken related Christmas present:

Fuzzy Butts currently hatching….and, dare I suggest it….could that one chick be a SPLASH??!! I would be so VERY pleased if it is!!! 3 in front are F2 OEs light one in back is an Orpington, either a VERY pale blue or perhaps….SPLASH!!
