Are there any safe ways you know of to keep snow out of the run? My one run isn't roofed and even the roofed one gets snow, which my chickens won't set foot in. On Friday I shoveled out most the snow and poured hot water over the remaining snow, but it wasn't the most efficient process and not all the water drained...

OK, so they seem to have passed an uneventful night all together. This morning when I went out to open the pop door, they were all still on the roost, the 2 older ones huddled together & the 2 new ones quite a distance away from the older ones but huddled close to each other. So when I opened the pop door, the older ones came out & the new ones stayed in. Went out an hour later & situation still the same, another hour later & the new girls were outside & the old ones in. One is scratching around on the floor & the other is on the nest. I suspect I'll only have 1 egg today. The 2 old ones do that a lot, one will be on the nest & the other is inside to lend support I guess...lol So I'll go out in another hour & see what is going on. I really don't think they have grown used to each other this quickly, I still expect feathers to fly...hopefully no blood though. I'm concerned about them being cooped up together for the next few days day & night but it's going to be way too cold to let them out, wind chills of -40 are being called for with actual temps -12.

Vicki:

You may luck out and they'll accommodate things without confrontations...they may just pencil neck a bit and have an understanding...good luck!

Thanks, that would be sooooooo nice. I was just out again to check on them, they are all in the run. Took 2 containers of yogurt out for them but the new girls were not used to treats other than bread so they weren't real fond of it, they did eat a little. I have 2 feeders on different sides of the run & they take turns eating from the 2 locations....lol Gracie has been pecking a little, pulled out a small downy feather from Gabbie but Gabbie ran away real quickly. This whole process is driving me crazy, I'm so worried about the girls...lol Must not be too stressful on the older girls, I did get 2 eggs today & have been getting 2 most days since I brought the 2 new ones home a week ago.

So sorry, better luck next year for all you philadelphia fans..
