now you got me wanting to experiment,,,, anyone want chicks that I will have to hatch for the experiment
maybe I should take 2 that I know are slow feather growers and mate them...I also find that the hens feather out much quicker in most...

may not be 100% accurate, but it is better tha eenie, meanie, minee, mo

Does anyone local raise pigeon for meat

I know strange question, but years ago when I use to visit my aunt in georgia she would serve a dish made from pigeon, only she called it squab.....it had a very unique taste, maybe it is just memory but I miss that dish.

I think squab has fallen out of favor in our times, but you can probably find lots of into on the web. Pigeons are incredibly dirty birds, about like ducks and geese. Some are pretty stupid too, but that probably depends on the strain. I had some White Modena pigeons as a boy. They are show pigeons and my uncle got them really cheap and gave them to me. They are bred to look pretty and not much else. I never could raise any young, they'd lay an egg and then 2 days later lay the other one in a completely different spot, then proceed to incubate one or the other, and abandon both if I tried to move them together.

I had much better success with ringneck doves, including the white ones. They are sweet and friendly and raised a lot of babies, but too small to be worth eating, I would say.

I can see that most would stick their noses up at a plate full of pigeon,,,,it is one of those childhood memories though.....I wouldn't even know how to cook it,,,I think she just fried them
