Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

we wait because we do.
Well now! Where you been hiding? Welcome back.
Guess it just took me that long to give up on the idea that things might change for the better.
Good for you! :hugs Stick to your guns and wait for the right fellow to come along... it will happen.
X2. It's never easy, even when it is absolutely the right decision.
Wanted to quickly chime in... Love the Dane pups!!! May have another one way sooner than I ever expected... Our Ivan, only 5, having serious limitations with an enlarged heart already. Heartbreaking... Back a few pages on the thread there was a discussion about new coops from old sheds... Having bought one (too expensive ) Amish coop from a local shed company, and also having bought a new shed from a big box store kit and converted it to a coop, I'd do the second option again... Much more space for chickens and food storage...but it did require about three full weekends of work, and generally two people for most tasks (one to hold, one to hammer). We rented a nail gun which would have cut the time in half... But with the kids often jumping in to help it wasn't used. We also hired a local shed company to move an existing shed...their delivery truck made it easy...so I'm guessing that even if they don't have a cheap one to sell, if you found someone local who wanted theirs gone, you might be able to get it moved at a reasonable price. Worth asking. The shed we bought and converted (about 7x11 feet) was about 1000 including delivery, shingles, and lumber and hardware cloth to frame the coop area inside, (about 1/2 the floor space). At the moment it's back to just a shed, full of lawn furniture and bikes...we're really happy we kept the shed or coop option open! A bit jealous of all the new chicks...we have 7 hens now, more than we need, so trying to resist the chicken math...
Hello Stranger! Love the microscope, Thank You!
Here is something you might consider for your next dinner party
Bwahahaha! Isn't that what they do to dogs when they're caught killing poultry?

a wise man told me the truth that i did not want to hear. it went something like this " if this how it is now. that is the best it is ever going to be." another one went like this. can be changed to a man with a change of words. if you meet a girl treat her like a princess . if she is a princess and demands to be treated like a queen . she is nothing more than a common wench.
Harsh but true..

blarney , how you doing i had a bad issue here on the home front. i lost 120 birds. lost them to mg/ms. these were my layers and show birds. so been hiding out get over the tears. all is well now. so back on tract.

bruce----what is mg/ms?

I am very sorry to hear about your big loss...................120 birds is a large amount of birds................saying that I am sorry for loss seems very insufficient.

How are you rebounding?

Is this something that you can rebuild from----I hope so-----

Is this something that is carried in your land or soil?

anyway----I do wish you much success going forward............and time to continue to recover from your loss.

Update on the "first egg" from the GNH's (German imported Hew Hampshires). Yesterday I found 5 more eggs, up on the poop board where my niece was not looking, LOL. So they are doing even better. Only 1 was not frozen solid, so I'm going to incubate that one and see what develops. I also put in 3 different nest boxes in 3 locations to try to entice them to a cleaner location.

I didn't notice until I compared it to the other eggs I am going to set also, but this "pullet" egg is the same size as an Ameracauna egg from a hen that is several years old, and definitely bigger than some barred rock eggs from pullets that have been laying for several months. I hope this is a sign of great things to come from these hens.

I also found the first turkey egg of the season. Frozen, of course, and hidden by the hen, but exactly where I expected them to start laying. I need to get a fake egg to put there. I think the old "golf ball" trick might not be good enough to mimic a turkey egg. I wonder if they make "super size" golf balls somewhere. Maybe I'll invest in some of those ceramic eggs. They are so realistic that my niece might bring them in to eat.
