Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

bruce----I looked up on this site "what is mg " and got some info.

One thing that is often listed is

all in / all out strategy...............or something like this.

can anyone explain what is meant by this?

is this related to when you get new birds and introduce to an existing flock?
or is this about when one hen has a disease---that all might be infected?

please advise.........

Lisa,  did you find the thread   https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/113931/chicken-got-a-cold-added-info-ms-mg-ilt-crd-npip

Some interesting reading for sure... it is long and sometimes tedious info to go through, but I am glad I took the time.

Wow! What great info. AND a wake up call for those lax in their Biosecurity. I love that the thread that you referenced addresses the fact that NPIP means different things in different states. NATIONAL Poultry Improvement Plan implies that the rules are the same across the Country, but they are actually made State by State. So Delaware and Ohio's rules may vary from Pennsylvania's.

@ Lisa 'all IN - all OUT'. Is just what it sounds like. No new birds introduced to the property until all old birds are gone. Not very feasible for those of us hatching or keeping our birds as pets. Much easier to picture in the meat bird industry where birds are kept a short amount of time

Sally & I already discovered there are big differences in NPIP between OH & PA.
yea no kidding, its irritating to say the least. I wanted two silkie hens to add to the serama pen, cant find anyone that tests besides stupid big hatcheries, I want a quality Blue andalusian Roo... same story ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGgg

Quote: sounds like your next project needs to be a couple of isolation pens....atleast till you can have them tested.
I was thinking a very LARGE feast actually, I dont have the freedom, I dont have the space! I WANT A BARN PERIOD! I want someone else to pay for my feed and do all the worrying for me! ha

Sally, if you're certified to do testing can you test them yourself while they are still in quarantine?
yes I can, but we are told we need to submit forms and get them approved, its a paperwork and hassle with getting Nan to ok it. She has told me more than once it has to be a good reason for it. lol

and how does that work for people who are in subdivision type neighborhoods,,,they have neighbors that are closer than my pens are,,,,what if a neighbor gets chickens and does not test

Hi all! We are just returning to PA from Ohio (by way of almost a year in Buffalo!) The house hunting has begun. Operation: New chickens!
