Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

and how does that work for people who are in subdivision type neighborhoods,,,they have neighbors that are closer than my pens are,,,,what if a neighbor gets chickens and does not test

Good question. I would suppose that most developments have a 'no poultry' Claus in their associations by-laws so I'm sure it doesn't come up that often.

Hi all! We are just returning to PA from Ohio (by way of almost a year in Buffalo!)  The house hunting has begun.  Operation: New chickens!

Welcome! Read that fine print to make sure you can have poultry! Are you closer to Pitt or Philly?

Sorry! Forgot to say North of Pittsburgh! We're trying very hard to make sure we dot our i's and cross our t's. Note: Just because the property has a chicken coop, doesn't mean that it's legal...

Sally, if you're certified to do testing can you test them yourself while they are still in quarantine?

yes I can, but we are told we need to submit forms and get them approved, its a paperwork and hassle with getting Nan to ok it. She has told me more than once it has to be a good reason for it. lol

So if it works like it does around here, you can test the birds for the person before you buy them so they are already certified & then buy them & add them to your flock. Take your testing fee off the price of the bird.

silkie,,,don't worry you will get some of the muscovy eggs, I am just waiting for warmer weather for gathering and shipping...and also the scovy and pekin will get offered on the swap..

just not comfortable offering eggs I do not yet have....

No problem. I just figured you had spotted something you wanted & knew you were good for whatever offer you made as soon as weather cooperated. I don't have anything st all laying right now between the move & the weather.

Quote: so you are saying that this would be next to impossible for me,,,,,I have birds coming in every 2 weeks,,,even though they are seperated from the layer flock I would need to test them and that is not gonna happen for birds that will only be there for 5 to 12 weeks

Hey wing, most people don't adhere to the rules I find!

But as we have seen it CAN bring up big issues and devastate an entire flock and others peoples flocks and once you have a major disease it does effect any future flocks, Nan totally discourages future flocks on the same site depending on the disease/s and how long it can survive the ground, and domain in general. But again, most do not adhere, this why there is so much disease, no one cares its all out for the buck unfortunately.

I will adhere to what I can, if there is a will there is a way to do things right! What better gal to find them lol

Quote: I see all kinds of eggs on that swap that I wouldn't mind,,,I never seem to have anything to offer when they pop up....really hoping the guy with the pheasants makes an appearance when the weather warms....really wish more folks would include pics though...or atleast have pics in their profile

thats a good question.... what if I ship chicks and the chick box next to it on that truck has AI or something??? then my recipient gets AI on their chicks and tags me with it! PURE FRUSTRATION!
