Quote: FIL does not like the dog boxes sitting around......kind of an issue right now,,,,the place belongs to the FIL and he worries so much about what a neighbor might think when driving past....don't get me started on this issue.....

my issue is the barn,,,, hubby got out of the pig business about 15 years ago, he ripped most of the cages out of the barn, but the space has been taken over by relatives storing things,,,,,,snowmobile trailers and things like that,,,hubby stores his grain truck and one of the small tractors in there also,,,,,,is is a whole barn being wasted,,,I have a small closet size area for my feed storage and room enough to put a brooder...that's it......has been the subject of many arguments...

Fisherlady,   hubby wants me to get calf hutches and use movable fencing,,,then just set up within the main layer run when needed,,,,this would be seasonal though,,,,,half the run is not usable right now, snow blows to much...

I don't know what they cost... but could you adopt/adapt dog igloos to work for it?  I would cut an access door in the back/top of it for cleaning purposes, but otherwise it may be feasible?

Start charging them all rent to use your space.

silkie, unfortunately, it is technically not our space,,,of course until some work needs done than it is all ours, .....

we thought about moving on year's ago, but hubby wanted to wait for the family farm....we both regret that decision now..

I butt heads with my family constantly...most I don't even speak to & haven't for years. My nearest relative that I talk to is an hour away when they aren't hiding in Florida like they are now. The next closest relative I speak to is over 6 hours away in Michigan. I'm on my own most of the time. I honestly prefer it that way. Most of my family has caused so many problems for me (the reason I don't speak to them) that my life us better without them in it.
I know my family is not typical. Just saying, sometimes it's better to put a bit of distance between you & the ones who drive you nuts just for your own well being.

I have a question about a possibly blind bird. Has anyone ever delt with this issue?

both eyes or just one,,, I have an EE rooster who is missing one eye.

Might be just one eye not sure she isn't acting right. I brought her inside, she has food and water but acted like she didn't know they were there till she stepped into the feed dish (which thankfully is secured to the cage). After stepping into the feed dish and finding the feed she started to eat.... Worried about what to do, if I can do anything for her...

My 1 eyed drake did fine in the pen with the others because he followed them around & could hear the others. Only issue we had with him was that you could sneak up on him from his blind side if he got separated from the others.

She normally is in with my small banties because they don't pick on her like the big birds do. But I noticed she was loosing weight and acting funny. That is why I brought her in.. Her head kind of bobs back and forth. I gave her some nutri drench to ward off mineral/vitamin deficiency. However she has been in for days now with little to no change. :( She is one of my sweetest girls.......
