Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

picked up a few hens today so I could have a good look at them and check for any signs of frostbite,,,,why are these girls starting to molt again,,,,,I know the coops stay fairly warm but have they not looked outside.

I have not really kept any significant records about my chickens...

I would like to start........

What do you all track ..........

I am not "in business"

but I want to watch egg laying and health variables
costs in general.....

anyone have a link to some sample ledgers...........I was trying to find some on this site yet have not really found anything yet.

thanks in advance!

Lisa:

Not sure what you want to track...for small flocks its not really that complicated....I over feed by 50% in the winter.....and their free ranging in the garden is about 50% less feed in other seasons....standard medications aren't that hard...same for egg counts....what do you want to track?

ouch....ouch....ouch...

#@#*#@#**##@#####@#!!!!!!

must those ducks play in their drinking water and make the whole pen an icy rink.......I never could ice skate....

spring please !!!without the slippy mud..

ahem....I think you are proud as a peacock with your new duckies...and you should be....duckies do what duckies do and so do mama's get some of those eggs over to Blarney so I may get a peek at them.....

Just curious what types traps you've tried. My neighbor had issues with them. I'd help him out but I don't have birdshot and they are inside.
Only style I've heard of is kind of like a minnow trap, I assume you understand what I mean. A big wire box with a basic boxed "M" design.

I have tried elevater style, funnel type, and large live traps with stick under door and string.
If they are inside a barn or coop I'd use rat/mouse traps with bread.Song birds won't go inside as quick as sparrows do.

I really don't track anything other than how many eggs I get. My flock is diverse enough that I can pretty much tell who is laying & who isn't. If I can't tell exactly which hen an egg came from I can at least narrow it down to 2-3 choices just by color & size.

Will you be willing to ship eggs then?

Yep!

I have every egg marked by pen and there are a lot of them. Well, I don't mark the Ameraucanas - they are the only blue egg layers I have!
BBSO - Blue/Black/Splash bantam Orps - Father is 100% English.
BMF - Bear Mille Fleur (Bear and his 3 girls)
MMF - Mixed Mile Fleur (a winter pen with all but 3 girls and 1 boy)
Cho - Bantam Chocolate Orps (2 pens)
O - Otis - Bantam chocolate Orp over black bantam Cochins
J - Jamie - Black/Blue bantam Cochins
T - Tom - Black bantam Cochin over bantam chocolate Orps
E - Ego - Black/Blue bantam Cochins

Stake and others

I want to keep track of the amount of eggs layed...........their patterns etc , in case their is some change in the pattern.

Now that I have more laying hens.............

also to keep track of when I provide certain medications.........worming etc...............

what if one chicken stops laying due to some health issue,.............will I be able to tell who it is ?

I have 3 brown egg layers............and am getting more chicks.....but they wont start to lay until the fall............just thought it might help to keep track of some things.........
