That would be me. My last staggered hatch lost power 4 times & dropped below 55°F at least twice. Batch 1 was 6 days late. Batch 2 was 4-5 days late & batch 3 was 3-5 days late. Had late babies last winter too with duckies going 8 days late.

It boggles my mind that the process can be put on hold...for days....translate that to humans and that be a one year pregnancy...next time one of my girls goes broody, I'll have to remember to give it a few extra days...

How about Ray from PA? or Chad Patrick? Both have some very dark eggs. We have been breeding more for show. Our eggs are dark, we tried to darken them more by adding an outside breeders line and ended up with birds with a bunch of DQs, which we couldn't show. So we sold those birds and are sticking to our own line. Perhaps this summer's breedings will be toward egg color only…kind of hard to gauge as the egg color changes throughout the laying cycle.
Not here yet…a lot colder out there than it looked this morning. I tend to take my first run out for watering and feed in just a t~shirt, usually works ok, this morning that was intolerable. We did find some spring though….it was at Longwood. The smell there was simply intoxicating.







Although just outside the Conservatory doors….winter was waiting:

OMGosh Blarney!!..I am jealous-all that Longwood-garden goodness!! and that goat is awesome!!! yes, it does smell & feel like spring outside, well for now anyway. I guess they calling it to get cold again..darn-it!! BUT, for now it sure is nice today!!..The birds are singing and I heard a ROBIN!! no-lie!! I didn't see it, but I heard it!!!

...Spring is just around the corner..only going to take till july for the snow to go away though..hahaha
We have some of **Sharrons wonderful "peach" tomato seeds she has sent to us, in the make-shift indoor garden..got to get those buggers started for the cold-frame in April!! Sooo looking forward to those!!
Still trying to get caught up with this thread, boy you kids are busy!! I may just throw in the towel soon...hope everyone & theirs are doing well!!

I realize I am bringing-up old stuff here, but Sally..this is so cool!!! Thank you for all the awesome sites!!! Gosh, I love this stuff....
I wanted to be a vet, but ended-up a cosmetologist...what happened there?! ahhaha...Anyway, I take it out on the animals..they get all the love & doctoring I can give..hahaha, um..like, I just gave the dog his yearly vacs, and the puppy her 10wk vac. ...sorry, way off topic..

*Back to the eggs...I have found that Chicka, who is a Marans has more of those "meat" of "blood" spots than the wyandottes...interesting stuff, I remember reading on the Marans thread that they do tend to have a propensity for that more than alot of other breeds. I am wondering has anyone else has found/seen this in their birds eggs?

on the chicken side..

I lost my old freedom ranger girl this morning to what I call blow out,,,,,I have not seen her lay an egg for at least a year so I am not sure what happened there......but for a meat bird I can see say she had a long life....

also I have an abundance of eggs here,,,,sales have not been good,,,I am packaging one box to send to silkie tonight,,,I should have enough for a seccond box if anyone wants to try hatching some mixes,,,my pens are not seperated yet but for some of them I can take a guess as to what the mix will be,,,,for instance I have some white bresse laying, and there's only 2 roosters in that pen,,a bresse and an OE... heading to post office in the morning so speak up if interested....


really... be careful out there, the mud is just as slippy as the ice..

oh Gawd!!! I washed the dog as they played yet again in the 3x3 area that has no snow! Then the kids came home and left them out AGAIN together and ended up with dog baths a 2nd time and some words of bad nature flew from my mouth...... I was NOT a happy camper! I am NOT looking forward to seeing the rest of the mud! 3x3 is ENOUGH!
