I like snow. Yes that sounds crazy. But what I am hating now is that it is melting and running into my coop. Just one more project that I need to add to my list this Spring. Everything is getting wet, its a sloppy mess. The roof is leaking as well

. I'm at a loss of what to do at this time. I have a large pool cover that I could put on the roof but it is a frozen block of ice. Oh the joys of chickens. At least the ducks and geese don't mind it so much.
We are looking at adding some fill and stone this spring/summer, but have to find the $$ first..

, maybe someone around here will need to get rid of some dirt, it happens a lot here.
With the snow melting and the rain..and the coop-run being in a lower lying area..we are having water issues too. Not too bad, but enough to make one heck of a mess!!..you do not want to take a spill in that!

Didn't realize it was as low as it is...guess when you actually start to use an area you start to pay more attention to it. Hope you got your roof situation worked out...

Here is one of my favorites of my 2013 hatches. He is a blue splash.
Awesome looking bird Troyer!! Looks like a 'merle' coloring that dogs get..nice.
More chick pics! Hillary has been joined by 2 more hardy survivors. When I removed the 2 older ones, I pulled the shells and figure out what hatched. They are all a cross, splash Breda fowl roo over Barred Rock pullets. I was hoping this cross might be black sex links, but I'm pretty sure the splash diluted the black like the barring and both sexes look the same. Or else they are all girls, possible with a group of only 3.

Hillary is the darker one on the left, #2 is the lighter one in the center. Photo bombers are some week old Rhodebars.

#3, trying to be patient until I move her to the brooder with her friends.
All these pics of chick cuteness...makes me happy to have put my turkey & meatie order in..I can enjoy them as chicks for a little while anyway..

This seems like a good one for today.......anyone with me ?????

it wouldn't let me resize....

on the chicken side..

I lost my old freedom ranger girl this morning to what I call blow out,,,,,I have not seen her lay an egg for at least a year so I am not sure what happened there......but for a meat bird I can see say she had a long life....

also I have an abundance of eggs here,,,,sales have not been good,,,I am packaging one box to send to silkie tonight,,,I should have enough for a seccond box if anyone wants to try hatching some mixes,,,my pens are not seperated yet but for some of them I can take a guess as to what the mix will be,,,,for instance I have some white bresse laying, and there's only 2 roosters in that pen,,a bresse and an OE... heading to post office in the morning so speak up if interested....

really... be careful out there, the mud is just as slippy as the ice..

No mudding for me yet! The jeep still needs lotsa work. Ball Joints, a new steering stabilizer, drag link... If it's up front and related to steering or bouncing, it needs to be replaced. :)

Sometimes I think I could feed the girls for a year on what I feed my jeep every quarter. (J)eeps (E)at (E)very (P)enny.
