Whatever you do, don't let the bugs get into your house. They are terribly hard to get rid of and they can infest all kinds of "meal" type foods. I got some once in a package of cereal and by the time I found them they were into everything. I had to dump the entire pantry of flours, meals, beans, grains, etc and wash it all down to keep them away. http://ento.psu.edu/extension/factsheets/cereal-and-pantry-pests

When I buy my feed from the parrot store that is composed of nuts, dried fruits, pellet, etc., I am told to freeze it for 3 days to kill an insect eggs. I've had an outbreak before, not fun. :sick Thanks for the link! Very interesting.

I'll be 30 next month :( blah not looking forward to that. As for in shape, Been working on it for 7 Weeks now. Must be helping some lol

I hit 30 in June. I'm stoked. I feel like I am finally starting to get a clue about things!

Question for experienced chicken caretakers.

What do you think about giving the chooks a Vitamin A supplement for eggs with more color? (And healthier too). I love eggs with an almost orange yolk.

We're in the Harrisburg area. Anyone know if there's a chickenstock nearby anytime soon? We are looking for Dominiques and Wellsummers (just one or two...)

most feed has supplement in it,,,you could just make sure they get plenty of greens, maybe set up a fodder system for winter time greens.

I have dom's , not to far from harrisburg...you looking for chicks or eggs.

can I get some opinions, and say it how it is, no sugar coating

I need to get my rooster to hen ratio under control so we are processing a few this afternoon and every weekend for awhile..

I have 2 young OE only one is worthy of keeping the other is mean,,, ( sorry Blarney) but I also have plenty of EE roosters that I am fond of,,,should I go down to 1 of each.

I have 2 maran hens and 1 maran rooster, he is not mean to people but he does not tolerate other roosters to well and he is a little rough on the hens, I am thinking to shish kabob him, I do not breed maran'a these eggs came as a swap hatch...

I have 2 different dominique rooster's , one does not have the standard comb, he has more of a single comb like a barred rock, thinking he should go..

I also have 3 white bresse roosters, one has an off color leg kind of a yellowish color, they are suppose to be blue, and the other 2 are blue,, should I get rid of the misfit....

maybe I should just remove from the pen those that I know I will keep and let hubby decide, since his way of deciding is whoever he can catch first

mean roosters are easy to make the decision, but the nice boys are hard to decide, maybe that is why they are so gorgeous, it is a survival technique

forgot to add, I also like my silkie rooster, I have 3 of them, I do not breed for silkie's, but I like the crosses I get from them,,,think of a big white rooster that has the body size and roundness of an orpington but the skin and feathers of the silkie, this is a typical combo that I get there... think maybe it is time for them to go though, I do not need any more crosses and they are about 3 years old

Seems very rare we have swaps around this area, but someone on here seems to have most everything! And everyone seems willing to share (aka, enable)
I am assuming that it's because of Root's Market and Green Dragon small animal auctions that we don't have any swaps around here. I believe there's one in Lebanon also and possibly one close to Reading. With so many small poultry auctions I guess we don't really need the swaps, although I would be happy to see some.
