Quote: even without the rooster count, that pen has about 60 hen's right now,,,I have a hard time butchering hen's that quit laying, I must have about 10 old girls in there right now
Just a question about egg positioning in the bater....I can understand rolling them every day....I watched my broody do it...but I eggs just don't stand on end (little side or big side) so if a broody doesn't stand them on end...why in the bater???(I just set my first egg two days ago, so I am learning)......
Did anyone else see the sunset tonight!? I didn't get outside early enough to catch the purples and pinks that were there. But I got some of the color.
You guys came close to what ended up being done today..
on the freezer camp bus is
1 mean OE
1 Maran that doesn't play well with others
3 large meat bird experiment rooster,,( beautiful birds but just to heavy for the hens )
1 Tommy Turkey,,,he jumped at my granddaughter today so he will need thawing for easter dinner.
Yes, I do really like the EE 's...I know they are just a mix breed but many are really nice and hardy......My main rooster always seems to be an EE once they get passed the teen years they are great.
They are in quarantine for now. Have to have my npip tester pay them a visit. Once they are allowed out they will be getting some EE girls until I pick them up some silkie girls at the swap. I love my colored eggs & my fluffy birds. Put them together & they are just awesome! Can't wait to make some silkie/ee's.
I had 26 hatch Thurs & Fri. Sold 6 before the last 2 even made it to the brooder. Had to cull 1 that hatched late & didn't get out on it's own. Still have 19 roaming the brooder.
