for those of you that are local within driving distance,,,,would you be interested in a crop of pick your own sweet corn,,,,,,,we plant this every year and it gets away from me and goes to waste,,,,,it seems to always be ready at a time when we are also busy at work, so I can not get to it in the field, let alone the processing of it to put in the freezer or can........I end up picking most off it to late when it gets chewy and ends up going to the birds..

and a garden question,,, lima beans, are they really hard to grow or is it just me....I get nice looking plants that never flower...

I have the same problem with the busy season.

Not a fan of limas, so I don't know.

Hi there, we grow limas every year, we've done bush and pole. If you are getting lots of beautiful green foliage, but no flowers/pods, I think that means you have too much nitrogen in your soil. Perhaps a soil test kit would help. Chicken poop is extremely high in nitrogen, so if you've worked that into your soil, it could explain things. They also like it very dry once they do start to flower, any rain and even high humidity and the leaves, flowers and pods will start to rot, so make sure you leave plenty of room between plants and between rows. The better the air circulation around each plant the better they will dry.

looking at the 10 day forecast, it certainly look like this might be the last of it.....on my side , it is good and bad,, early spring brings a lot of extra work with it.....

Yay! :weee
my garden area still has frost in it and where it doesn't it has a foot of mud

Yick, still muddy here too, though the snow is gone

Might be worth a drive, to check out your chicken set up and get corn! I'm sure I will have something to swap by then. ;)

that could be the issue,,,everything gets chicken poop and I tend to plant things closer than recommended

In planning and planting a garden -- "less is more". Smaller and intensively managed beds (like "square foot gardening") is usually more satisfying for anyone not trying to garden at a commercial level. Once the weeds get ahead of me, I tend to give up, so restraint is my motto this year.

I hope that doesn't apply to chickens because I may already be in way over my head . . .
