Hello all,

We just moved into York County, PA so I wanted to get on to say hello.  but also a couple nights ago we had an attack and lost 8 of our 10 light Brahma's.  We were hoping to replace them but would like to take a try at hatching some, so if anyone has some light Brahma hatching eggs within an hour(two if you would be willing to meet half way, I would be interested.  or if you would ship them that would be great as well.  any help is appreciated, thank you.

After pulling the latest chicks from the incubator, I now have a total of 54 chicks hatched this week! 2 - Silkies 8 - Bredas 7 - New Hampshires 10 - Black/Blue Copper Marans 7 - Welsummers 20 - Mixed breeds Is this too many? Am I out of control? Will I stop? (NO to the last one, if not the first 2)

Welcome! And sorry for your loss I'm new to chickens so I can't help you out but it's amazing what the people on here have lol usually ask and you shall find lol YAY! Congrats that may be me one day lol. As of now, I'm lucky my husband didn't kill me for getting 17 lol (yes, he found out before coming home lol)

And by found out I suspect you mean that you spilled the beans , asked for forgiveness and told him how cute they were?

Pics or it didn't happen? Can you find the Silkies? Hint: they are very black, while the Bredas are blue and have little white bibs. Fresh from the incubator. Brown ones are Welsummers, the rest are Copper Marans Mixed breeds - when it comes to sheer cuteness, I think these might win the prize. I know they are "mutts", but they hatched 100% and got out of the egg earlier than the purebreds. I think the ones with chipmunk down are probably the olive eggers (easter eggers with a Welsummer roo).

Soooo adorable! I remain jealous!

All: I've found a new tool in roo management....a tennis ball...have been getting one of my girls re-integrated back into the flock, but main roo has a bad attitude..(he's great on all other levels)...so I have been supervising her outings....I don't mean you need to knock him off his feet, but, it stops aggression without me having to step in....my two cents

My meaties were off heat by 2-3 weeks inside the garage as long as temps stayed above 50F. Off completely by 4 weeks regardless of temps. I have them in groups of 9-10 for warmth. The more space you give them the less often it has to be cleaned & the more exercise they get, which helps strengthen their legs. They do not need a roost, but if you choose to give them 1 make sure it is very low (4-6 inches off the ground) & extremely sturdy (you would have to stand on it to break it) & as wide as possible to help reduce pressure points on the feet that can lead to bumblefoot very quickly due to their weight. Ferment feed for highest weight conversion, least mess & less smell from poop. We shall not speak of the contents of my 4 brooders nor my 4 bators

more chick flicks ( I mean pics ) please.....I have no babies this year except meatiesw and they do not count..

whoever had the wellie chicks, congrats, one of my favorite breeds, I just have never had any luck overwintering the breed..

fisherlady and CC..... does it mean anything to be female and have those hands....I get strange looks when I stick myself with things and never feel it,,,, I work with machinery that exceeds 400 degrees at times, burns are an everyday thing

It means you are a worker also! It isn't just men I see the tough skin on.... My own hands are very rarely intact, usually have cuts, scrapes or splinters in them somewhere. I got to work today and found I had a large splinter in the side of my thumb, no idea how or when I got that one. Managed to cut it out with clippers, hopefully got it all, will find out in a few days if I didn't. With the construction, animal chores and fishing I don't even begin to try anything beyond the occasional lotion anymore. DH new he wasn't getting a manicure type from the start, that's for sure!

lol, no. Found out as in I wasn't trying to hide it too well and he read all the comments on my Chickens album on Facebook while checking out all the pictures I put up lol. He said he never agreed to 17 so we may have to have a BBQ! Good thing I know he's kidding lol.

That was me, wingstone. 7 more hatched overnight, so I have 14 welsummer chicks now. I also have 4 older pullets (and 2 roos) that are not laying yet, but that all survived this past winter fine, of course they were protected in the barn, not running outside like your laying flock. If I ever get too many, I want to free range some, and I expect them to do fine in the winters. The main loss of the free range ones is with predators.
