Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

yup, dig them as soon as you see them and get a substantial chunk of the roots and underground stem, you aren't going to hurt the mother plant. You can probably dig up a big plant from near the center of the patch and break it up into many individual shoots to plant. The surrounding plants will fill in the spot you dug from, or plant one of the shoots back in there for a replacement.

thanks!

Wingstone, these babies are so cute!! I weighed the biggest and smallest looking. 1.4oz and 1 oz.

Looks like you have them well recovered from their trip... They will keep you busy the next few days!
Of course, if you miss having them around after you drop them off to Wing I can set you up with some more.....

Is there anyone near me that would be willing to incubate some eggs for me in exchange for hatching eggs? I have Black Copper Marans, Olive Eggers, Mottled Houdans, Anconas, Cochins and 2 kinds of ducks: Rouen and Blue Swedish.

I am actually near Saegertown. Have to change on my avatar.

I just started collecting fertile eggs.

Now there is a tempting offer!! The joy of incubating and getting to watch the hatch and the bonus of extra eggs for your own hatch! I wish I had an incubator instead of broodies sometimes!

I would love to help, but unfortunately I don't have that incubator and the only broody I have committed to a nest right now could only cover 8 or 10 eggs tops... and she is a first timer, so too iffy to risk really important eggs. But... I happen to drive past your way on a regular basis, so if you find a taker and need transport for eggs or chicks to the central part of the state then get back to me and I may be able to help out with that part.

It warms up to 100 degrees and then turns off and then falls down to 95 before it turns back on. I didn't set any eggs so I am not loosing any eggs. The only incubator I was able to hatch chicken eggs from is my silkie. It is too cold out yet to let her sit. This morning it was 27 burr.

Never underestimate the power of a broody hen! When she decides she's ready, let her have eggs to sit on, I think you'll be surprised at how reliable a "heating unit" she is, especially if she's done it before.

But waiting on the urges of a hen often doesn't fit our schedule, hence we use incubators. I hate to suggest throwing away newly purchased thermostat, but I'd suggest you search Amazon for STC-1000, and this site too. It is a few dollars more than what you bought, but is much more accurate with the temps. I love the remote sensor that you can move to where ever you want the temps recorded from. Near the eggs, of course, but you can move it where you wish without a redesign.
