turkeys enjoyed a day out.

What kind you got there, hubby wanted to skip turkey this year encount of space so I put midget whites in the incubator

Chicken chores are never ending, I remember years ago trying to turn the chickens into a business, we have done that and let me just say, be careful what you wish for,,,,,these days I very seldom have time to just sit down and enjoy the chickens..
But on the bright side in the. Last 2 days we have sold 25 roasters and 14 dozen eggs and ephrata Agway called for a load of straw (hubby better get moving on fixing the big truck).

Now I am taking a half hour break and going to sonic for a banana split, I do not care how fattening it is...

I waited to long and can not find the potatoes to plant, anyone know if places like home depot carry them
you of all people shouldn't even be thinking on those lines of eating..your so dang tiny woman!!

**potatoes I got from the farmers market here...just some old 'eyeing-up' ones I asked him to sell to me, after I got a look...I told him I was planting them..then he smiled and said they would be great for that..he sold them to me for $1.00....yep! About 4lbs. of potatoes in the bin for growing...how much would that make???

So hardware cloth does not come in 4 foot width unless ordered online?

I can get the 4 ft wide just about everywhere here: TSC, Rural King, Lowes

I just read that when shipping eggs, a woman labels the box "Live embryos" and has had better luck getting the post office to stop drop kicking the boxes. Now, I am sure we all know that the post office only has the utmost respect for all of our packages. Especially the chicks and hatching eggs. :lau

That's how I lable mine. They have done a lot better since I started marking them that way. Blarney just hatched a bunch of my turkeys marked that way.

You probably need it right away, but if you plan ahead and check walmart.com, amazon and ebay, you can get a much better price. Make sure you figure shipping charges, if any. I think I saw 4 ft by 50ft recently for about $60, maybe it was 70. I was looking for 2 ft, so I don't remember the details.

My neighbor may have extra, any particular kind?

I washed a chicken today ...............for the first time

and then used the blow dryer to dry her.

She was a good sport and I think actually liked it.............. just as others said they often do

YOu all may remember my posts about possible poultry lice or mites.............it seems she has some stuff at the base of her feathers.............I have not seen moving bugs but don't know what this greyish white stuff is.............maybe just dirt?

she is a cross beak chicken so perhaps she is not able to preen as well as the others.

I washed her in warm water and dish dietergent and the stuff at the feathers...........didn't really come off but was washed

her skin is cleaner and I put Vaseline on her feet and comb and wattles............

if there is any mite or lice issues this bath must have helped a bit......... It was kinda fun to do to!

Pictures of my new hoop house / chicken tractor. I'm very happy with how it turned out and going to make another one soon.

This is the back, the door is on the far side. The blue tarp inside is draped over a board laid across 2 dog crates. This smaller shelter is where they all slept their first night.

Straight on the back. landscape timbers on the ground around it are to hold down the welded wire apron. We have enough predator issues to make extra precautions necessary.

Close up of the back, showing the shelter and the waterer (white 5 gal bucket).

Close up from the side.

Front view, showing the door. Upper right has the solar charger for the "night light"

View from the front.

Look into the open door, shows the roosts (5 ft high). You can also see the night light, LED's in plastic tubing wire-tied to the roof.

Same view, better lighting

So glad to hear it all worked out well for you, no crazy wet chicken chasing!!....I am waiting for it to get a little warmer here, I am excited to do this to the girls...hahaha, I have some 'lavender epsom salts', was going to use that...the lavender should be really good to help keep the critters away....has anyone else ever used this product?

I thought I'd pop into the thread. I'm from Lebanon County just 5 miles off of I-81.

I am looking for some dual purpose breeds to raise and maybe breed. I'm looking especially closely at Delaware's but have thought about New Hampshire's too. Anybody near by breeding these breeds?
