Lots of new baby chicks hatching today!

I pulled out 13 "Super Blue Egg Layers" from the Hovabator I was trying to use as a hatcher. I'm not liking that styrofoam incubator for hatching. Time to build a coolerbator hatcher I think. Those chicks are very vigorous and probably would have hatched sitting in a bowl on the table!

Still in the cabinet incubator are the Barred Holland chicks, and a lot of others. The Barred Holland eggs were from msladyhawke and are hatching great. I'm not sure how many hatched because I can't see into their basket completely without opening the incubator, but there are a lot of little black chicks sleeping peacefully in there.

Hatch day is so much fun!

Congrats!! When do we see pictures?

I can barely keep up with you guys! MC your boys are getting huge and fast!

I'm hoping to go this weekend and shoot a turkey in the woods. We'll eat it for thanksgiving.

These are the only ones I've taken out. There are 13 super blue egg layers. Their mother was a commercial white leghorn and the father a lavender Ameracauna. As adults, their colors should be something like a splash (mostly white). The black patches are from their father (also where their blue egg laying ability comes from). The eggs were huge, all would be classed as jumbo, so the chicks are big also. I will keep them separate from most of the other chicks, for the sake of the others. I'm excited to see how this little project turns out.

Gotta love sleeping babies of any kind!

Awwww the are too cute.

Hey! Thanks for all the help guys! My husband and i were looking to teach ourselves to process our own chickens, but time has not been on our side (remodeling, out of town job, young children, ect) so the help you gave me was awesome! I'm also excited that there are so many people close to me. In other news, we're hopefully receiving our silver laced and blue laced chicks tomorrow ... yay!
