I am a slacker in the garden this year,,, seems we do not do as much in the garden anymore, and now it is just the 2 of us, yes the 29 year old daughter moved out.....it seems odd at times.......
Onions and peas are the only thing planted so far, and only about half of the amount we would normally do...
I also find it hard to package things in smaller packs...

I envy those of you with a house full of kids and all the hustle of it....but I also am liking my peace and quiet.....

I need to do something with a bag of apples today, they are getting bad spots...

Apple Crisp

Slice peeled apples thinly & layer in casserole dish

Mix oatmeal, butter/margarine (softened), a little flour, brown sugar, cinnamon & clove until most of the lumps are out (best to mix with hands)

Sprinkle topping over apples

Put in 350F oven until apples boil in their own juice & are tender

(Can you tell I don't use cookbook recipes?)

Hi All,

New to chicken raising - we got our first chickens last month (3 year and a half old hens).

and of course I have a question - does anyone know where in Berks County I can find organic chicken feed?

My strawberries went in a few wells ago. Peas are up, carrots, cabbage, bets, potatoes all in and some up. Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers probably in next week or two, beans and corn scattered over the next month and a half.

Some things I put in early.

Cherries and pears are in blossom, apples just starting to blossom.

Spring has spring!

For the gardening folk:

My tomatoes and cucs got wiped out by frost and rain in mid april...had to put the peppers in because the chooks started eating at them...they got flooded out last week and I don't know about the radish/lettuce/beans that I planted....1/2 the peas are doing well the other 1/2 the chooks got....tough gardening this year....

My Peaches have bloomed and are done....cherry just opened up its first flower and my pears seem about a week+ behind....

I certainly hope not! and I bet most of the people .............if not all .............on here would agree.........................seems so wrong on an intuitive level.

with the concerns re: our world food sources and quality of foods.................and the rights of the individual to his/her own property.................it is hard to believe that this would be happening.

unfortunately........there is such a strong influence by big companies and money that the little guy has little impact................this is a truly sad statement and I do hope that some people in government can still............even with these influences............make reasonable and sensible decisions for the average person.

my chickens do love to eat apples ...............I offer them as a treat.....................you could always bake apples sliced with bread in a French toast type of casserole................I saw some awesome recipes on pinterest with bread lined up in a baking dish and apple slices inbetween the bread and then a milk and egg combo poured on top for a big French toast like item..............I think raisins and nuts and cinnamon could also be added.---------its kinda making me hungry just thinking about it.............plus its a faster way of making French toast for a group...............just an idea

wow, ....there is something behind this whole move/decision...and it had nothing to do with having anyone's best interests in mind.....only the opposite..JMHO

**Garlic is already up!, still waiting on the beets & carrots. Have to get the onion sets in , just bought them yesterday. Got the "candy" variety, should be sweet! Also bought some green leaf lettuces and some red leaf seeds..have to get those in at some point...between the rain drops

...also have the apple and cherries trees to get in the ground..have the holes dug already...Oh, and the potatoes are in..but don't see anything yet.
