Hey everyone. I live in Gilbertsville bordering montgomery and berks county. and I am looking to fill our new run with sand. My research suggest river and or concrete sand. Any reccomendations on where to get it and cost of a 16 x 16 foot run? Thanks!

I am very interested in this also, especially since I have some of those eggs from you. I have never hatch MF chicks of any kind, I'm not sure of the genetic makeup of the MF color. I will research this and get back to you because I'd like to know what to expect when my cochin chicks hatch.

Are they pure black or with white undersides? Any white head spots? Are their flight feathers coming in all black or with white or buff markings?

No idea how much you'll need, but find a local brick and masonry sales yard. They'll have masonry sand by weight and deliver, probably for a small fee. I think that sand would work, although I've never used sand. Others here swear by it.

And welcome!

Edit to add: an online calculator says 900 lbs will cover it just over 4 inches deep. I do not know from experience.

Black with yellow undersides and the very ends going down the feet have some yellow color,
So far they either hatch like that or a solid yellow.

But if I remember correctly, the mille fleur had mostly yellow as chicks

Sally I do a lot of ducks and they got messy till we put them in a rabbit cage with a small priority mail box used for a dry area, this is easily changed and the mess drops to the pan below

I start them in the basement for 2 weeks in a rabbit cage with a light hung over it, then they move to a brooder in the barn with the same set up for awhile.. Ducks seem to like it a little colder than chicks so I take that into consideration when placing the light

There are many skills being lost because our children are not taught some of the basic games that we grew up on. (I grew up in the '70s.) I played Bridge with my great aunt and uncle. I played Spades with my friends. I worked jigsaw puzzles with my mother and aunt. I played the sliding squares puzzles and later Rubik's cube which took the concept to 3D. I learned half of the Cat's Cradle string game.

It continues to amaze me how many of my interests in science have analogies in children's games. It leads me to conclude that games and science are closely related and that the key is to hold onto the wonder of exploration that we all had when small. Not to be frustrated by a mystery, but intrigued. The thrill of learning a new game, not the worry of how well we will perform in it.

Wheaten is the classic "yellow down" chick. White birds also of course. I'll have to try to look this up, but I expect MF is also wheaten based, probably with mottled genes and mahogany to darken the buff of wheaten.
I think Mottled is recessive, so all the chicks from the wheaten roo will probably not show any MFpatterns.

Do you have only the wheaten roo, or a MF roo also?
