do you know of any organic shops nearby? We have one here called "everything natural under the sun" and it's entirely non gmo and organic based. I'd do an online search for holistics or organics to try to find somewhere like that.

Yuck, it's just one of those days. I never drink coffee but here I am, mid afternoon drinking some just to try to stay awake. I crashed on the couch for a good hour and just can't get motivated at all today. I did make brownies earlier but between falling asleep, all I'm doing is eating them all! Maybe a combination of PMS and the weather but there's so much I could be doing right now and I just can't move!
I have a well. Feel free to fill up jugs here ( in sure they do at the farm, as well.
Two rabbits at eating size for variety.
Neighbor has a chemical free orchard and gardens ( he sells stuff) if anything is in season.
Wild berries may be coming in this month ( raspberry, mulberry, wine berry) although that is normally closer to July. Peas and sugar peas might be in, hard to say.
Should be able to find lettuce and salad locally. There is that farmers market in town.
There is an organic butcher shop in Milton Grove. Pricey, but organic. Breakaway Farms, I think.

haha! None of that but I might as well have with the way I'm acting today lol. I think the coffee has kicked in somewhat. I'm heading out to start putting done chicken wire up in the runAnd just what did you put in those brownies?
it's about time, they're dying to get out in it. I swear they know that we've been building it. They constantly stare out their little window at us while we're working out there and have been pecking at the wood that I have blocking their door to it. Maple actually jumped out of the coop this morning when Hubby had it open talking to them and hopped into the run and under the coop to explore lol
@My peeps I can enable you with bantam cochin eggs! Actually, I have 3 chicks right now that I'll need to find homes for. They're yours if you want em.
@wingstone there are always rabbits... Are they in season all year? Squirrel is also really good. Go fish in the creek for some trout or something. Farmers stands are opening. Dandelions are really good for you and can be found in the backyard.

The 2 lavenders are pure for sure. The blues & black you will need to check the chests for white tips on the feathers to see if they are mottled or slate. I didn't see any white in the chest of the blue on the left in the 1 pic so pure on it unless you start seeing white in the next couple weeks. The palm/blue slate cross won't give lavender since my slates are all blue & my palms are all black so the lavenders have to come from slate/slate in my pen.[COLOR=0000FF]SilkieSensation, these are your turkeys. ACK! Condolences on your loss. Can the birds be replaced? And do you have any idea what kinda predator it is? We've curtailed unsupervised free-ranging around these parts till I can fill the fox with holes or water...
Our Garden fence here is made with nice sturdy 10 foot t-posts, and nice, flimsy net that lets the wind blow right through it. Those posts were set with a post banger, and fail to significantly move even under my (Considerable!) weight. But if I had to do it again...
...I'd veto the D.O.'s choice and go with a proper chainlink fence. But this was cheaper, is far less noticeable, and is more asthetically pleasing, and that's why she's the D.O. and I'm just the Lizard.
I think we've had local critters chewing holes through the netting, although it has definitely accomplished it's primary purpose of keeping the DEER out.
So now I have TWO broodies. It seems that Tiny has picked up on Olive's queues and is sitting on eggs. And the rest of our girls are more than happy to deposit them for her. She's even taken it to a whole new level and plucked her chest mostly bare.
I've read that broodieness is contagious, so our current plan is as follows:
- Tonight after dark, I will lift up Olive, remove the nesting material and her eggs to a cardboard box (which will fit into the nesting box) place her into the box on top of her eggs, and place this box back into the nesting box.
- Saturday after dark, we're going to toss a lid on that box, and move it to the brooder, and pull the lid off on Sunday morning.
Hopefully with Olive temporarily out of the picture, the rest of the girls will stop getting funny ideas.
That just leaves the question of what to do for Tiny. I'm thinking that giving her some eggs is a bad idea, since I'm not prepared to build that much bigger of a coop. But the D.O. has not completely sworn off that possibility. We also thought about giving her half of Olive's eggs, in the hopes that they hatch and that the chicks will break her mood.
