Yes, I drink water,

Water in my coffee

Water in in my tea

Water in all other drinks, after the ice cubes melt.

Let me clear up this challenge that I have....it is not real specific, it comes from the fact that I tease the brothers about all the chemicals and preservatives that they eat..

It is more of , I bet you can not eat a natural, nothing added diet for a month...when you start really looking at the ingredients, it is amazing what we eat..

Not saying this to scare people, I am sure it is n every food plant, but some of the raw ingredients that go into making a popular snack food, has to be handled with care....seriously, we have departments at work that you must put on a respirator mask with filters, because the raw material is a known cancer causing

agent.... and somehow it is OK to eat this, just not breath it.

I bet you could do it.  What you wouldn't be able to buy is processed foods.

If you're the type who cooks meals, it shouldn't be that much of a challenge so long as you're careful about your sources.  Of course a garden is ideal, but given the recent popularity of "Organic" produce and meats, it shouldn't be too hard.  Just a bit expensive.

Being able to cook is the problem, I work 12 hour shifts, plus the farm chores.....this is the brothers point of why they eat the way they do....

I also eat on the run most days,, just a little more careful of my choices than they are.

Sure would be easier if it was august and I had planning time...

I've done 12s. And the 2 job thing. IT can be done. :) Once-a-week cooking and a decent supply of tupperware, icepacks and a cooler make this much easier. Think one-pot meals, slow cooker, crudites, fruits, and simple grains.

It can be done, and you can do it! You'll show em.

I agree...take one day and do large quantities of favorite meals. yesterday I made 100 pigs and 300 meatballs. Both will be packed in meal sized vacuum packs for freezer. About 60 or 70 meals worth for us.
Both were done with wholesome ingredients...so they would probably be an option for your challenge.

Thanks for having the confidence in me to do this, it will be a big change, I am way to stuck on convenience....

By the way is any brand of pasta considered non processed, this may be my downfall, I eat way to much pasta.....

I will need to keep telling myself that come august heat, it will be them in the tobacco field not me......if you ever worked tobacco, you will understand.

Almost forgot, what about butter, I fry everything in butter.

Do you have a recipe for meatballs made with ground chicken, that would be ideal,,, what about the bread crumbs and things like that, or even the bread for eating them......wouldn't flour be processed.....

Flour is processed. The question is, has it been adulterated with chemicals? It's possible to get flour that contains nothing but...

...wait for it...

...wheat. :)

Unenriched wheat would be your best bet. Or if you have access to a suitable grinder, make it yourself and don't worry. (I have a food service blender that easily reduces anything short of metal to dust. A simple grinder, mill, or food processor should do much the same if the wheat isn't too hard.)

If you have FLOUR, you can have bread. And bread is great for people on the run; you mix it, knead it, then put it away into the fridge and just let it rise while you're working. When you get home? Into the oven, and go do something else.

Or like I said, simple grains. Yeah, pasta is taste, but you know what? "Spaghetti" sauce with meatballs or sausage goes great over rice, bulger, parboild wheat, steamed barley... You get the picture. For more taste? Cook your grains in chicken broth.

If I were Wing's extra roos, I'd be awful nervous about now!

But you have chickens, so you have eggs. And if you get flour, you can have pasta. Maybe not cute stuff like macaroni or rotini, but a nice Spaetzel or some flat noodles are well within the range of possible, without major effort.

Welcome to the fun!

Annie:

I had trouble keeping my girls in the backyard until the Roo showed up....more than once, I had to run around the neighborhood chasing chickens...I also clipped their wings....

I would love a roo, but we absolutely can't have one in the burbs here. I will be clipping the leghorns wings soon!

We have talked about doing this if/when our garden starts producing. I just need to find out where to get a Pepsi plant.

Finally done with packing all the birds I processed Monday. 9 nice fat broilers, 1 spare roo from the layer pen, 5 scrawny boys someone pawned off on me & I had to fatten up for a month before butchering...still scrawny! Packed the 4 banties, 2 banty/lf crosses & my spare roo whole. Did 3 whole breasts with ribs, the rest of the broilers went in pieces...leg/thighs, breast filets & wings all separate in packs of 2-3 depending on size. Also boiled down the stripped carcases & put 5 bags of broth in the freezer. Most of the meat got brined before packing except the 3 breast sections. I also have in excess of 10 dozen eggs in the freezer in packs of 6, 9 & 12. We like scrambled eggs year round...not just when the girls feel like handing them over.

How do you frees your eggs? Do they taste the same?

Hi Y'all!

Does anyone have interesting hatching eggs available close to Lititz? I have a hen ready to set. I would like to set her next week. I probably won't hatch any more than 12. (And really, I can't drive very far - super busy at the moment.)

Looking especially for kid-friendly varieties who lay well. My children would love some white egg-layers so we have white eggs to dye next year for Easter! Also hoping for some blue eggs. (I tried hatching Amerucanas last year but they all ended up being roosters, whom we rehomed.) I wouldn't mind brown as long as they are good layers and friendly.

Currently I have all 2 year olds. 2 black austrolopes who make great mamas and 2 Stars (Red and Black) who are my best layers.

Sadly I need to get rid of my 2 buff orpingtons because they don't lay well any more, but I'm not quite sure what to do with them. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

:) Jen
